Yeah i think he means uplifiting as in those (often trance) tunes with really obvious melodies that the crowd will fall for immediately. It's very easy to get the crowd going with these. Not much skills is required in the track selection.

i think finding tunes that fit this description is actually a real skill considering almost all new uplifting trance stuff is such utter crap. i think there are few amateur DJs with the ear for good melody.

By all means challenge yourself but theres no point playing tracks. Play what you want and try to be creative, don't deliberately make it hard for yourself by just choosing boring tracks.

It doesn't mention anything about boring tracks, just not ones that will get the crowd going instantly when you play it.
Allied Nations
Ok. Will do.

No, im saying you have to get the balance right between being creative and appealing to the crowd by playing popular tracks. This is exactly the reason why DJ's like armin and tiesto are huge, and DJ's like fleming and digweed, while certainly being respected and a lot of DJ's favourite DJ's, have a very limited appeal.

that guy could rock the joint on his reputation alone for many... so for someone of his level it wouldnt be too difficult, for a new dj that has only just started playing out to crowds i would probably advise against trying it unless u were 100% certain (which is doubtful if u havent played to te same crowd before)

IMO J00F is not so much making a negative remark about uplifting tracks as he is making a point about hundreds of DJs who make their decision on which track to play from what was played on such and such ASOT episode...

obviously it's important to use big tracks at the right moments, not even a matter of when in a party to drop them, but even on the larger scale, choosing what party you will drop the big track.

he's on the internet making a divisive and loaded statement to get his point across, which is the only way people get their points across on the internet, so don't take it so seriously either way
Allied Nations
he's not talking about uplifing tracks, but uplifting and anthemic tracks. two different stories. aka those epic popppy happy go lucky bangers.

i dont think he means play dark music

theognis1002
some examples of these songs?

I really like this post from John. Great read and more DJ's should take it into account :)
