wait a little bit till the new amd's with .13 archetecture(sp) come out... im in desperate need of a new puter, but its gonna be worth the wait

tnx guys you help alot!!!!!:)

i think i will buy AMD (the money talk...:)

and i will wait for the 0.13micron as you say....
Juricimo
just buy the AMD.

i'm sure you are aware taht the two companies produce comparable products in terms of processors. you may not be aware though, that Intel's products are much more expensive compared to AMD's.

End result: Intel = Over-priced.:eyes:

i have a p4 1.7 i just got it , its alright i don't see a huge performance diff between that and my 1.0 amd athlon, it certainly wasn't worth the price

Great info...:)

BTW....do any of you have custom built computers, or did you just buy it.?

Would it be a better idea to buy a new comp., or just upgrade my current one.?

Go with AMD. AMD keeps coming out with awesome chips that constantly kick intel's ass.

dont let a fancy 2400mhz fool you, AMD XP cpu's (their highest end) only run around 1500mhz. The difference is that their pipelines are shorter and fatter, meaning data going through it doesnt have to go as far, and more can be squeezed into it (or something like that). P4's are long and skinny, which will give you a higher mhz reading, but overall not as good speed.

AMD's are cheap and fast, Id go with them if I were you

Make sure you get it with a 333mhz mobo/memory setup. That will kick ass for music producing and stuff like that. S P E E D

Never buy a pentium again!

Ya shouldn't have to wait long the Athlon with 0.13micron (thoroughbred) core, it should be out this month (1 month late) I'm still waitin for that one, its being launched as XP2400+ (in the UK neway).

Imo custom built pcs is the only way to go, its very easy to diy, and you get alot better performance for your money than "all in one mobo" (sound gfx etc built onto ur motherboard and not upgradable) that the major companies like TIME etc. do. Theres tutorials etc. all over the web for anybody trying it for the first time.
As for upgrading a current pc, it depends what you've got tbh, some just aren't worth upgrading (If you've got an all in one mobo for example) you're better off selling as is, and starting a fresh one from scratch, thats my two penneth neway ;)

skattrd...Thanks for the info.
When i have the money, i'll be sure to build one...

now i need your help becuse i dont know what processor is better for games and media???

my friend tell me thet the new AMD processor better then pentium4 processor FOR GAMES MOVIES MUSIC AND INTERNET and all thet stuff
and im just want to know if someone here know something about thet!!!!

tnx arik!!!

it all depends what you want to do. If you are panning to run a lot of software that is optimized for P4 (like the newest release of photoshop) and you need all the performance you need for these applications (which is a _VERY_ small number) then please, go ahead and buy a P4.

If you want the abosulte fastest Q3 framesrates possible -negligient of the price- go ahead and buy the P4...

if you want the best 'band for the buck' buy a nice Athlon. They are cheaper and faster than the P4 clock for clock, apart from some applications..

About this guy talking about RDRam being much faster than DDR.. show me some numbers pls. I have seen like 1 benchmark to date where RD is a little faster than DDR and it was using the 'new' PC1033 (or wahtever they call it) RD ram in comparison to PC266 DDR...

That is correct, but at tom's hardware site I read a review which they compared the P4 (1.8 i think) with a athlon XP 1.8 . And it resulted in that the athlon in better in almost every test. That range from gaming to heavy duty program use (like photoshop or autocad).

For me, I'm currently using a P3 1 gig. I bought it for the use of software that is optimezed for a P3. A friend bought a athlon 1 gig. And it is faster with loading and processing then the P3, which is using the software that is optimezed for a P3.

So my next pc will contain a Athlon for sure!!!!

RDRAM is alot faster than DDR RAM, it runs on a 400mhz bus compared to 266mhz of pc2100 ddr RAM. Heres a comparison and explantion @ hardwarecentral, there are others around, do a search and you'll easily find them. The fact that RDRAM is about 3 times the price means most people dont use it, and RDRAM motherboards are uncommon and expensive, even intel are switching to DDR now (with the new i845 c/set) and pc2700 DDR is getting more common and faster DDR is on its way soon as well. The Athlons due for release at the end of the year "The Hammer" run on a 400mhz fsb, so expect DDR speeds to go upto the same :D and personally I expect RDRAM to disappear.
