It just doesn't sit well with me at all.

T virus YES
G virus YES
T-Veronica virus YES

Las Plagas

NO

If they are still able to retain SOME of their humanity, unlike the aforementioned viruses, then it's just not the same and I don't know how Wesker could make full use of it. Maybe I'm missing something?

It was monotonous and an utter bore. The story was weak, the gameplay weaker, and in general it provided for one of the most intensely uninteresting gaming experiences I've ever known.

WAs I stated before, RE was about tradition. Okay, the graphics and moving camera angles were great in RE4, no doubt about that, but come ON. RE was all about zombies, not humans under some kind of hypnotic/chemical control, that's just plain LAME.

IMO the fixed camera angles made the RE experience scarier, and made the "Survival Horror" theme.

If those are your only gripes about RE4, you really need to reexamine why those are negatives. First of all, the Zombies in all the RE games WERE chemically created - so if you have an issue with that, you may as well not like any of the games. I think that's a pretty damn petty issues though, and really boils down to nothing more than personal preference.

Second, fixed camera was done in previous RE games due solely to technological limitations. The new camera used in RE4 added so uch to the abilities of the game developers to add more content than in previous games. The diverse amount of gameplay alone rockets RE4 to the top of the pile for RE games. The potential for 'scariness' is far greater with more capabilities than it is with a fixed camera/prerendered backgrounds.

Furthermore, aren't you the one asking for more innovation in games? Why gripe about one of the most innovative reimaginations of a series of all time, and then claim that MGS3 and GTA are the franchises that are truly evovling, when in reality a LOT of additions to those series are purely superficial?

....I'll get back to you on that after I'm done with my wasted food shopping.

This fight has only begun! :whip:

Well, your opinion is def. your own, and I'm surprised you feel that way about it, but this IS a big world, and naturally tastes vary from person to person. (Now without genre bashing),) you prefer house, I prefer trance. You don't like MGS3, I do. I am fascinated by your distaste for the game though, but I respect your opinion. My final thought: maybe you couldn't grow to love it because maybe you haven't been following Metal Gear since 1987 like I have, but I could be wrong.

I ask for innovations as long as they don't ruin a time honored tradition. Here's an example. In Metal Gear, ever since the 1987 games, when you get spotted by an enemy, you see a bright "!" over the enemy's head. I heard talk that for the upcoming Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, they were considering REMOVING the "!" :( To take something that has been part of the series since it's inception is just wrong to me. Innovation though, in this game's case, OctoCam: camoflage with the ability to blend with ANY environment. Now that's awesome innovation and I welcome that change.

Regarding Resident Evil 4...yes the zombies were chemically created, but the zombies in every game except 4 showed no signs of humanity. The ones in 4 DO, and I find that distressing. Original? Yes. Innovative? Perhaps. Follows tradition? Def. not. Then again, it could be personal preference but I stand by what I say. It just doesn't feel right.

GTA is full of innovations and new things to do every single time a new game is released, even Vice City Stories for PSP. It's amazing how much they were able to cram into a little UMD.

That is all....

Now, I've never played MGS 3, so my opinion really doesnt matter, but from people I've talked to that have played it, most say its not only the best MGS game ever, but its better than any Splinter Cell game as well. I dunno if I buy that statement though. Everyone has their owns tastes. Like for instance...I ing hate mashed potatoes...theres just something about the texture of the food that makes me gag. French fries on the other hand are friggin amazing. Weird, I know.

Also, GTA is getting tired in my opinion. I'm specifically not using the word 'bad' in this case because I DO still enjoy the GTA universe. Its just that it almost feels like Vice City and San Andreas were merely expansion packs to the original GTA III. Its like "its the same game, but now you got motorcycles!"...or "its the same game, but now you can swim!"...I want a complete and total reimagination of the GTA world to the point that I dont feel like I'm merely continuing a quest I've already done. Then again, I think Rock* knows this already, which is why the next GTA is being called "IV"...its the TRUE sequel we've all been waiting for.

Despite my complaints, I still find it absolutely incredible, like you mentioned DA, that Rock* was able to create a fully functional and complete GTA game on the PSP. Thats just amazing. Truly shows how powerful Sony's handheld is. Now, if only 3rd party developers could better take advantage of said power and not just rehash their console ports for the 34th time!

May I also add, Resident Evil is a series that was going great until they came out with:

Gun Survivor
Outbreak, Files 1 & 2
Resident Evil 4

4 ruined a great tradition with the way things were changed, such as the camera angle, and....humans injected with some mind control crap, and NOT being zombies? Sacrilege. Resident Evil 1-3 plus Code: Veronica are all true to tradition and remain as my favorites.

I do. If you buy Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence for PS2, the original MSX versions of Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake are on the 2nd disc.

It's called milking the franchise Bud!

my rant is how companies sell a console in a box and give you all with it these days. you used to get 2 controllers and a game sometimes. now the playstation 3 comes out costing a thousand dollars here and you just get one controller and thats it. why do people keep falling for this now? theres hype about having high definition games, but you have to buy a separate cable for that! on this point i might be wrong but im sure i remember reading that when the xbox came out you couldnt play dvds on it without buying the dvd remote seperate too. pisses me off.

Well, I've played through every Metal Gear game released, even the import MSX versions that weren't released in the states, so I'd say I've at the very least got a similar background with the series. I do understand that most people like MGS3, I just happen to think those people are absolutely crazy - it just wasn't Metal Gear to me. I couldn't play the game on my terms in the same way I felt I could in previous titles.

As far as your other concerns, it really just sounds like nostalgia and fear of innovation more than anything. I can appreciate that you want certain things to remain "traditional," but unfortunately, many times I think that means sacrificing the possibility of real innovation.

And I have to agree with Conner, even though I'll certainly be playing IV, I really hope the improvements to it are far more than cosmetic or mini game based, I want something in the way the game is fundamentally played to change - otherwise, they're every bit as bad as EA for putting out a formulaic titles.

That being said, I'm definitely going to purchasing Vice City stories once it hits the PS2.
Omega_Blue
i wasn't a big fan of MGS3 but i didn't play it a whole lot so i have little opinion on that. MGS2 was disappointing for me honestly, it didn't compare at all to MGS. and yes, i have also played the original metal gears (MG2MSX being my favorite by far) and i agree that the series has grown a ton since the old-school days. "I FEEL ASLEEP!!"

as for castlevania, I don't like the new PS2/xbox reincarnations but you must admit that the GBA/DS games are absolutely fantastic. all of them are generally the same as SOTN (which may get boring for some) which i think is a great idea.

final fantasy went downhill after 7. 8 was horrendous, 9 tried to go back to its roots, and 10 ed it up all over again. once again though, the recent reincarnations for the GBA/DS are absolutely fantastic and i hope that they at least keep to their roots on the small screen.

i have no opinion on RE since i only played up to RE3 and RECV but i think RE2 did it best. CV was good also.

DA i think the best answer to your problem is to just stick to the old school games then. that's what i do. i haven't played the xbox360 for more than a half an hour ever. never even seen a PS3 before.

I for one think that GTA4 is going to be a lame game.
Sure it can have great Music, actors, plot and Graphics but i think R* is focusing too much on those things instead of nurturing the Gameplay aspect of the game.
I think that driving in GTA4 will feel like driving around True Crime's cities in Driv3r's cars.
I think R* is spending too much time on stupid things like the diffrent Skills, ing abilities and virtual weight lifting of the players, Vice City didnt have any of that crap and it was fine.
i dont want to play SIMS when i play GTA - i hate sims and i want diffrent things from my GTA.

It will still be an intresting game as the trailer showed us but im kinda waiting for a flop this time.:)

god i hope im wrong :D
