LORD OF BASS TOLD ME THAT HE IS COMPENSATED VERY HIGHLY FOR HIS BEATPORT TRACKS. APPARENTLY IT PAYS WELL TO BE THE NUMBER 1 GREEK HARDSTYLE PRODUCER.

Artists really don't get a lot from beatport. But then again realize that many more digital stores get your tune and sell it so your royalties increase.

Labels get a percentage, then the digital store and artists. So you really don't make much at all. You'd have to produce a load of tunes, get your name known, get good reputation and get a lot of sales.

For someone like Trentemoller I think he makes quite some bucks.

digital downloads don't involve production costs, so I've never heard of a threshold in such cases. And Beatport itself gets its share too. 50/50 of label income from your digital downloads is pretty common.

Keep in mind all sorts of things can interact with this such as remix costs, so in detail it's specific per contract.

and your wrong. digital downloads still have production costs just like ALL music does. digital music doesnt have DUPLICATION or DISTRIBUTION costs like physical mediums. :)
Blake
If they do get a share, it's like 5 or 10 cents per dollar sold. Most artists and producers make all their money in their live performances.

I was referring to duplication costs. No real investment for the label. Sometimes promotion. If they want to.

That makes sense.

I think for the itunes downloads, artist get a few cents per 99 cent download.

you know what also i have wondered? how do producers get money off of remixing other songs?

for example:

ferry corsten - track a (andrea remix)

do i get any money for remixing this track if it is on his album, vinyl, etc?
