| I'm probably one of the few that doesn't really feel the Northern Exposure CD series.. I do like much of the stuff Diggers has played after that, though. The 2000-2002 period is probably my favourite of those. Still very much into that sound. |

True but he's not underground in the sense that he's some dude playing these rave parties or small hole in the wall clubs and releasing CDs locally. I mean he does big festivals and a lot of people know his name. He's a big name in EDM so obviously that doesn't make him exactly "underground". His style isn't exactly mainstream, but he is playing a style that is kind of a fad right now (minimal and electro-house type stuff). So in that respect, he is kind of mainstream. And he plays for pretty large audiences at large mainstream events and tours. And his CDs can be found at any large retailer like Borders, Best Buy, FYE etc.
So basically, he himself is mainstream but some of the music he plays isn't. He does throw in some older and more obscure stuff or lesser known stuff. But his style is still a pretty popular style. |
he is far from playing stuff that is a fad. he is way ahead of fads, and always has been. saw him a few weeks ago and he was playing some wicked stuff that i have no idea how to describe.
he may be in the spot light, but who cares....i know he doesn't. he just loves pushing new sounds and music. thats what makes digweed, digweed. |

Yeah I see what you mean too. I was actually thinking about that after I posted, the fact that he's big in the dance music scene. And his tracks are definitely of the minimal/tech influence, but to say that HE'S playing what the fad isn't really fair. Maybe it's the fad because he's playing it, and not the other way around. If that makes sense :p
And I didn't know you could get his CDs at Borders and Best Buy :wtf: Must be a regional thing. |

I loved their style when they were more dark prog-house in 00-02. Spinning things like "Chilling Moments" by Shmuel Flash, now he's kinda eh...transitions isn't really that exciting in my opinion. I barely really listen to a set by him or sasha much anymore, even though they're still my fav. DJ's, it's just the tunes aren't that interesting. |
i agree - he was my hero early 00's i listen to some of the sets still on a daily basis 'chilling moments' is one hell of a epic prog tune - i like the fact he is now playing pryda stuff - im going to see him on thursday i cant wait |

Yeah you can get them at many stores. Yeah I guess saying it is a fad isn't fair. I agree now. But he is still playing stuff that is pretty popular or becomes popular. I mean right now, the big rage it seems is minimal, electro and tech type stuff and that is largely what he's playing...and what is popular at the moment. Maybe he started playing this stuff before it became popular and then once he started playing it, it did. It's kind of like with his darker progressive stuff..he started to play it, and then other DJs started playing a similar style, like Dave Seaman, Sasha (of course), Nick Warren, and Anthony Pappa and a few others. So perhaps you can call him a trend-setter who isn't really one, but when people hear him play stuff...he makes it popular. But like I said, his style is underground largely, not really all big names, but the name Digweed is a mainstream name, almost anyone into EDM i'm sure knows his name. |

Totally agree with you on this one. The minimal/tech stuff is definitely an underground thing. Do you think the fact that Digweed is playing this helps or hurts his career? Plenty of old Digweed fans that absolutely loathe minimal think he's 'selling out' or playing what's popular or whatever and I feel like that's a bad rep for him. I think he's playing what's popular because HE made it that way :p
I mean if you listen to some of his older stuff from maybe two or three years ago he was playing that new 'electro' sound, before it got all fart bassy. Think Guy Gerber - Stoppage Time and Freemasons - Love On My Mind (King Unique Mix) as well as some other KU tracks. I would say he's always been slightly ahead of the curve and setting trends rather than just following them ;) |

Yeah and he'll probably switch to something else soon. I think maybe jazzy, deep house stuff with downtempo and some minimal thrown in. Maybe he'll clean himself up and have the squeeky clean look again haha.
I don't think he himself sees himself or realizes that he is a trend-setter. He just plays what he likes and it just so happens because he is a big name in the scene, people catch on. It would be cool if he came to Detroit. Sasha does periodically, but I don't think he has for two years. |

Haha well I think by the time he's in his mid and later 40s if he is still DJing, I doubt he'll still be into the dirty tech stuff. If he cuts his hair and gets the look again, it'll probably be if he finds a girl or something. I know I care more about the way I look when I like a girl...girls are the same way! I guess he's like one of these guys who gets into metal and starts looking like a metal head, or a punk rocker. Digweed though seems like one of the more humble DJs out there. He's not one of these guys who likes to draw attention to himself. Which is one of the reasons he doesn't dance around or wave his arms up in the air and sometimes doesn't even pay attention to the audience...like Tiesto or Armin. He's a DJs DJ, not really a performers DJs like these others guys are (who happen to play a different style that is a bit more attention getting, for people with short attention spans...ADHD music haha). |

He's had a wedding ring on in all of the recent photos I've seen. |

Oh okay. Well maybe his fiancee likes guys with that look. Or it's just a personal thing. Now Sasha hasn't changed at all since the 90s. He doesn't even look older. His sound hasn't changed that drastically as Digweed's has over time, but Sasha has gotten into the minimal, techy and electro type stuff as well. I think I might eventually get used to the sound and embrace it. Cause it is here to stay for a while..and I think it compliments a lot of the more downtempo stuff i've been into lately. |
