You should be glad you have allergies. They are a sign of health and high quality of life that you're living.

Allergies are simply an overactive immune system. Overactive in the sense that there are not enough pathogens in the body to keep it occupied so it moves on to inert substances such as pollen. If you look at the instance of allergies in "developing" countries or in areas with poor sanitation, allergies are almost non-existant. In fact, some researchers have even introduced parasites into test subjects and have seen their allergies decrease or disappear.

Now, I'm not suggesting people start living without sanitation, but we evolved without washing our hands after going to the bathroom, without antibiotics and soap and without modern sanitation. Our immune system is made to work with baseline pathogens present, but when we get rid of those baseline pathogens, our immune system finds something else to react to.

Allergies are a byproduct of good health and good hygeine.

Bwahahahahaha ... hmmm ... I have always followed great hygiene. I have excellent health. And I dont have any health problems or allergies whatsoever. Where the hell do you get your information from??? Jesus Christ. You are getting badly brainwashed at school, bud.

Quite a few people that I know have terrible hygiene standards and they have all sorts of health issues, like my ex-roommate. A smelly, sweaty dusgusting son of a gun who didnt give a rats ass about his health. And he had allergies to dust, allergies to milk - well, no , if you only have seen his room and how often he vacuums it.

That's still a matter of conjecture in the medical sense, hasn't been quite proved out to be completely correct. Most of it does however seem to be inherited from your ancestors, so if you where asthmatic or get hay fever, chances are down the line you have someone in your family with a history of it as well.

Could my allergy to meat have anything to do with this? :conf:

If so, do tell me, that's been bugging me for decades (and I'm just 24 :D)

There's a difference between food allergies and seasonal allergies. Now being allergic to meat is a bit peculiar, you'd have to explain it more, but allergies to wheat (gluten), peanuts, etc. are different biologically than having a reaction to pollen, spores, etc. For most food allergies the individual lacks an enzyme or metabolic pathway, turning a food into a poison. Seasonal allergies is the body reacting to a non-pathogenic substance such as pollen, which is harmless except for the side effects.

People can doubt me all they want, but the "hygiene hypothesis" of allergies, especially seasonal allergies is well known and is taught in modern pathology and immunology. There is a genetic component to allergies, especially non-seasonal ones, but in disease there are both genetic and environmental factors at play.

And as far as roommates living in filth with allergies present, I find it hard to believe that as dirty as your roommate may be, he is living with fecal matter caked to him, drinking unsanitary water or regularly consuming spoiled food. "Dirty" is a relative term and compared to our ancient ancestors, or even those in poorer, developing areas, he is living in relatively top hygienic conditions.

Basically if, and only if, I eat meat of any kind, acneic nodules appear beneath my skin. Tested it empirically quite a few times and even wondered whether it could be psychosomatic - however, it isn't... a couple of weeks ago, unbeknownst to me, I ate tuna and now I'm left with the scar :(

Bizarre. I don't doubt you, I'm just wondering if there is anything else that might be causing the reaction, such as ingredients that go into meat processing or if it was a mixed-dish, other ingredients besides the meat. If you eat meat alone, freshly prepared, do you get the similar reaction, or is it only with processed meats?

Again, I'm not trying to say you're wrong, as you're living with it, I'm just wondering if there might be something else involved, as a strict meat allergy covering multiple types of meats (fish, poulty, pork, etc.) is very rare and can cause problems during GI development.
