just to clarify, I don't think Rachel is a "head hunter", but I'm sure she can give you some advice as to where to go with your search, she's awesome :)

I was recruited by a smaller, niche-market recruiting firm who found my resume either on monster or workopolis.

so they work...just keep in mind you're putting a lot of personal info on the net for anyone with an account to see.

Those types of websites(monster) are used primarily for professionals. If you are a chartered accountant, or something like that, you will have no problem getting a job. If not, you'll be lucky to find something suitable. From my experience.

My mom found her job on Monster.ca and has been there for 4 years and is tres successful. I guess it all depends on what you're lookign for and are willing to do.

It doesn't hurt to post up your resume -- it's easy, it's free and more and more companies are using it to search for candidates because it is an inexpensive way to recruit. Most head-hunters use these sites as well (a lot of people find them annoying but they have a lot of good leads to jobs that are not posted to the public).

I've had tremendous success on Monster. The first few weeks when I posted, I got a call almost everyday (and sure you get the occassional hassel from companies that frequent the site such as Primerica but for the most part I also received interview opportunities from banks, blue chip companies and other Fortune 500 firms).

I actually just landed a killer job (perhaps my dream job) because someone found my resume online. I also used to work in HR and we often used Monster, Workopolis, etc. to find candidates. The key is to update often (so you are on top of your category) and to populate your resume with the appropriate KEY WORDS -- lots of them!!! (That is how you'll be found.)

Hope this helps... Good luck!
