i believe it follows the persian new year. it's a day marked with plenty of celebrations. 13bedar is the official 13th annual celebration of the sausage-fest festival in orange county.

What a bunch of douche bags. These guys give Persians bad names. Sadly, many of the superficial ones (which mainly reside in LA) are like this, and buy into that materialistic mentality. Bob, what if you played a psytrance party for one of those all-Persian clubs? LOL, that would be a riot. They're all used to hearing 8 year old expired tunes: Kernkraft 400, Sandstorm, 9PM (Till I Come), and you drop a JOOF track, and they'll be all "VAT IS THIS? IT IS SO GOOOOD! KHALI KHOOBEH!"

Out of curiosity, why do Iranians in America refer to themselves as Persians. I've met Iranians in Europe and they refer to themselves as Iranians. Is there a difference between the two terms ?

You're right. I figured why the heck not.

I guess I'm not super creative this morning, but maybe it'll spawn some better attempts. ;)

Subtle, anyone?

From studying the era of the Ottoman empire, I remember that the country was named Iran sometime in the mid-1900's. Up until then it was "Persia"... The Persian Empire was huge, powerful, and very influential in its area at one point.

My assumption is that saying you're "Persian" removes the negative stigma given off by the American press for Iran. "Persia" is associated with the glory of the Persian Empire. "Iran" ... well, the US wants to bomb them. US-Iranian relations are simply not the best!

In Europe, this stigma is pretty much non-existent as far as I can remember back in 2004. I ran into "Iranians" too, not "Persians." In Canada and Europe, diplomatic relations with Iran are also much more fluid.

Plus "Persia" just gracely rolls off your tongue. Say it out loud... ahhh...
