Anyway, understand Underworld - Pearls Girl and win a cookie |
Someone once mentioned to me it was something along the lines of sitting at the shore of a bay or something watching the sunset. I'd have to agree, as it's the only thing that makes any sort of remote sense. Let's break it down, shall we?
Rioja, Rioja
Said twice to signify two meanings for the same word, as one is a Spanish wine and the other a province in Andalusia (mentioned later on), Spain.
Reverend Al Green
??
Deep Blue Morocco
Deep blue would be the description of the water. Morocco is directly across the Strait of Gibraltar from Andalusia, Spain which I assume would be visible from the shore.
The water on stone
The water on concrete
The water on sand
The water on firesmoke
The first three lines describe the various shorelines. I haven't the slightest clue what "firesmoke" is.
The wind
The salt
Slight breeze with the smell of the salt water. Obvious. :p
The bright boat coming
Goes without saying.
Dave in the water
Old man Einstein on top of his house
White deep blue
Some guy is in the water, they either know his name is Dave or they've just given the name to some random person. Someone on top of their house resembles Einstein. "White deep blue" could either be the color of the sky, or the water. Given the next line I'd say it's the water.
Andalusia
Red yellow, red yellow
Once again, referencing Andalusia, Spain. I'd imagine that "red yellow" is describing a sunset.
Black car
Red light
Black car sitting at a red light. Duh. :p
Far black place
*shrug*
Walls
Blue chair
Describing what's around them?
Morocco
Hamburg
Paris
Again they reference Morocco, but I haven't the slightest inclination as to what Hamburg and Paris are doing there.
The pieces of the puzzle are waiting
Umm, yeah. I'm just going to randomnly guess that nearby a puzzle is being worked on, because I have no clue what that's doing there.
The water of the dark boats
Gliding
Bright boat gone out to sea and
Dave is floating
Dave is floating
An old man
Einstein
Crazy in his attic
Just like when the lyrics previously appear, they're describing the surrounding scene.
White room
Sun room
Shadow room
Night
Transmitting cars across the room
These things sent to dance across the room
I'm watching from your bed
Returning to you
Beats me.
So yeah. Ultimately, I think the main subject of Pearl's Girl is describing sitting on the shore of a city in Andalusia, Spain, sipping a glass of wine as the sun sets. If you think I'm wrong, have a go at it. :p |

This music is made by pillheads. Go read Nietzsche. |

"its a nice day for a white wedding, its a nice day to start again..."

His songs talk about love, all about love
the guy was in an island, drunk, he was listening to love songs

You're taking too much of the song literally.
Also, don't think every Underworld track has a solid meaning. |

| I think Karl Hyde often did the same thing Jon Anderson of Yes would sometimes do when it came to lyrics: just write some random thoughts that complements the music rather than have any concrete meaning to them. |

Maybe, and I probably am. I just gave him what he asked for. :p |

The material and immaterial? So either it's about everything, or everything else? |
