My girlfriend is visiting me here in the bay area over this coming weekend. While I seem to get to good parties at night, being a student from out of state means that I have a lot less idea what the city offers in the slightly more touristy vein during the day. So, bay area people, help me out. What are the best places to visit, accessible via public transportation and walking/short cab rides if necessary?

Well if your into checking out some cool shops in a hippie-ish area try Haight Street...Aomeba is there too. You can also check out Alcatraz, Golden Gate Bridge (duh), you can take a wine trip into Napa Valley and do lunch + wine tasting in the vinyards, go to the Museum of Science, Art and Human Perception, Mezzanine + 1015 Folsom, go to a 49ers game, rent a kayak and see the city during sunset from a paddling perspective. The thing is, there is a TON of stuff to due in San Francisco, and the locals are really cool so just ask around and people will help!

hey i just visited from LA this past weekend for 4 days 3 nights.. The main place i enjoyed during the day more then anything was golden gate park, especially the japanese tea garden. I found most of the area to be way too crowded to actually enjoy it.

Wow, you are in for a treat. There are a lot of little things you can do. There are so many landmarks and legendary San Francisco "institutions". Things that you just have to do and try when you are here in the city.

Even me as a Native San Franciscan, there are a number of things I still have never done and are looking forward to whenever I get a day off.

You might want to try eating or drinking at some famous places here in the city. Places like:
1. Swan Oyster Depot (Polk Street) http://sanfrancisco.citysearch.com/review/885734

2. Buena Vista Cafe (Fisherman's Wharf)

3. SF Brewing Company (Chinatown/North Beach)
