Ecler Nuo 4 vs DJM 800

After reading the earlier thread on the DJM 800 and its midi capabilities, I'm wondering if I'm better off with a Nuo 4. Effects are not really important to me, but I want to be able to use my 2 cdjs with Torq and, in the future, run Ableton efficiently. What do you guys recommend based on experience or word of mouth?
Thanks guys. |

No expert but I was thinking about getting an Ecler (but I didn't think I would use the MIDI) but if you are going to use the MIDI, definitely save yourself the $700 and just get an Ecler Nuo 4. The DJM 800 is over kill and if you don't need the effects, it really is a waste. I've heard the Ecler is specifically made (obviously) to work with MIDI, so using programs like Torque, Traktor or Ableton, just makes sense with MIDI control. I don't think the DJM 800 has that. |

I think the NUO4 is a good overall mixer for mixing MIDI programs with outside sources (like CD players/turntables). It has two MIDI channels plus the MIDI center strip, and it also has that 5th "channel" which acts as the input for your PC...so you dont have to waste a channel just for that. It's also easier to switch between normal audio and MIDI on channels 2/3.
From my understanding, the DJM-800 must be switched to ALL MIDI, or nothing...plus you would use a complete channel just for your PC audio. |

we have a winner ! i love my nuo 4 for that very reason, i actually have cdj's on 1 and 4, traktor on 2 and 3 in the H-Line input (because if i put it on MIDI input my soundcard's latency is le gay and s everything up the bumhole) and then i use input 5 "computer" as possibly a third deck in traktor, or for any loop programs, the mixer also has a REC-out, which i plug into my audiophile 192's input (my outputs come from a creative audigy 2 ZS)...
basically, its a mess of cables, but its a damn awesome mixer,
btw soundwerks, is there a rotary kit for the nuo 4? that would be interesting to try out, and going way off topic, you sold a nuo 5 to my neighbour the other week :P just thought that was kinda funny, small world. |

it seems like a bunch of you guys need clarification on the DJM800. It's designed specifically for what you're talking about. MIDI has been completely implemented into every aspect including a midi MTC and clock and nearly every control gernerates a CC and can change channels as well if your templates from midi controllers to the djm800 interfere. The ecler's are great products don't get me wrong but are somewhat limited in that it's my understanding they don't have a built in midi clock (how are you going to sync digital to analog?). Definately try before you buy! If you don't know how it works stop by a GC to give the 800 a go, and likewise look at the ecler's as the EQ's may not be to your liking (they are mid-heavy). Both have superb sound but with the 800 you get your money's worth and there's a reason why it is an industry standard mixer.

The NUO4 does have a MIDI clock ;) There is a TAP button, which you tap to send out a MIDI clock signal. But no, it is not automatic...not sure if it is on the DJM.
Theyre both great mixers, I agree. The DJM has more dedicated controls vs. the NUO4 (until you take into account the 3 layouts and two banks on the NUO4, which multiply everything by 3 and then double that over again).
The thing I dont get about the DJM is that if you want to use two channels for Traktor, and two channels for CDJ's...then youre outta luck because you would have to use an entire channel for the audio out from your PC. I dont have experience with the DJM...so maybe you can explain it. :)
I see the DJM better for ableton, because it has more faders in total...I find the NUO4 to be better suited towards TRaktor or other DJ programs. |

Why would it be a problem? In fact I've played on SPAWNmaster's DJM-800 at a gig he hosted in his dorm - several DJ's were going back and forth and we had 2 CDJ's connected to 2 of the channels, and my laptop with Traktor in external mixer mode with 2 separate outputs from my soundcard going into the other 2 channels of the 800. Worked fine, no problems. |
