Montreal 2007

My fourth time, I have 5 BILLION requests (almost literally) about EVERY detail of the weekend. And this is a weekend that deserves a full review. BEST WEEKEND OF MUSIC EVER!!!!!!!!!

Friday: Markus Schulz @ Stereo

First of all it took us TWELVE hours to get to montreal on friday, dont EVEN get me started on that. So me and Wai were exhausted and of course Montreal is full of crazy mofo's that START their parties at 4:30 am LOL. wtf!?! lol

We met the opener, who's name was Gabriel (batts? sp?) and he just killed it. absolutely sick set and his interaction with the crowd was NUTSOLA. definately played Andy moor/El "find" And that Fonzerelli tune at some points. lol fantastic guy, too. He said it was his dream to play in stereo for markus, so he was on top of the world and you could tell he put everything into his set. :) :)

Now, let me just tell you about this Markus f*ckin schulz guy. He OWNED our asses this weekend. beat after hard beat. The set just got better and better and by the end he was throwin it down PROPPA! SICK HARD BEATS!!! I have NEVER EVER heard him play/interact with the crowd like that. Stereo has a sick system and he played harder than I have ever heard him. The combo of the two rocked us. You could tell why it was his fav place to play in the world. :) :) :)

Wai and I were lucky enough to get to stand up in the VIP/DJ booth area and meet a ton of amazing people (thx Jim! woot!), including the awesome workers and owner of Stereo. They were all fantastic people who were SOO hospitable and for some reason thought it was the best thing in the world that we were from NYC. LOL they all freaked out about that for some reason and treated us so well, you have no idea!! And wai will tell you....a great part of the night was when we got to meet Markus! :) :) The owner: "Markus, when you get done playing that song you HAVE to come meet kelly, she is FAB-U-LOUS!!!" LOL What a fantastic guy markus is(who knew? He always has such a stern look on his face! He was smiling and laughing the whole time in MTL!). He was jumpin around going crazy, and a couple times pointed to me and Wai while we were in the booth and began dancing around like crazy. LOL haha crazy man!
:haha:

The owner was nice enough to let extend the invitation to have drinks with them after the set downstairs, and even tho, I swear it was like 10:30, and we hadn't slept for like 30 hours, we could NOT pass that up!! :toothless Wai musta been freakin because its her fav DJ :) We ended up havin some drinks and had a really interesting and funny conversation with the guy. I was completely impressed because a lot of DJ's will have this "passing by" convo where they are not really interested and say two words to you before heading to the exit/groupie who will them. lol :) He was extremely friendly and took the time to have a funny and real conversation with us :) (and *thankfully* about something good, not something retarded and repetitive, like about how much people love him, blah blah, ya know?)

anyways, the moral of that story was that (and I can say this because I heard her say it) it was Wai's best night ever, and a SICK one for me. We were in a fantasic club, we met a load of great TA's from all across canada (damn they came from EVERYWHERE!!!, got to meet such friendly and hospitable people (and even went out with a worker from stereo the next evening because we had so much fun), got MANHANDLED by the light guy who was in the booth with us!! LOL, got to meet markus, and heard a set that I have NEVER heard come outta that man!! Markus went up in my list a MILE because now I know what he is capable of: DESTROYING THE PLACE!!!!!! :eyes: :eyes: :eyes: :D :D :D :D

Seriously a TON TON TON more interesting stories but you can hear them in person because the bal review is gonna be hella long.

BEST way to start the weekend.

Bal review next.

ALl I have to say to preface this is: HOLY ING TOONAGE!!!! Music weekend of the CENTURY!! nothing could beat this night. If you are a fan of hard SICK beats, HUGE breakdowns, and full hours of classics mixed in, you could not go wrong. This could not have been a better night in terms of music in ANY POSSIBLE WAY. I almost want to write this whole thread in CAPS IT WAS THAT F*CKING SICK!!!! and not JUST *my* typical trance. I was in the mood for something hard....I got it.... and I got the kicked outta me by beats. nada, jenn, mere, etc, you bitches need to go cry in your rooms right now.

Review:

Decor/sound/vibe:

These are my complaints: the decor was really cool, but had nothing to do with the theme of white, so not impressed at all! What ever happened to having WHITE decor at a WHITE party? :conf:

The sound: . Was fine for the hard, deep beats, but when armin/ A&B played the high pitched trancey , the sound killed my ears:( And on top if that the front speakers (or whatever) cut off like at LEAST 20 times during armin's set. He looked like he was gonna freakin kill somebody, but kept the dimples pumpin! lol The other speakers were all in the back, so the music didn't STOP but it sounded like it was far away enough to be in the other room :whip: :whip: Seriously, people, the whole point of this party is the music, so if thats not right, thats bull.

Vibe: Amazing, friendly people everywhere (again FREAKIN out everytime they asked where I was from?? must be they like nyc??) LOFL!! it was like I was a freakin celebrity or something! (prolly too much E up in the place!) The whole Bal vibe was def not the same as last year but still great. The nudity and CRAZY costumes were ten fold last year, but this year had plenty enough to keep us entertained. And whats with the group of 80-year-old white ladies with pink mohwaks??? that was a big wtf of the night but also awesome in the same sense. They looked so excited to be there and jammin!! :haha: The vibe in and of its self was a million times better tho: people were there to go nuts, no one was rude AT ALL and the whole scene was just incredible!!  :eyes: :eyes: :D :D Loved all the Mtl/TO/ottawa TA's.....you know who you are, dont make me say all your names, thats just not right. lol You guys treated us so well. Special shoutouts Fahad who gave wipe downs with his stack of towels by appoinment. also, Malek, because I finally got to meet him and he was just as nice as people said he was. :) Personal stories MUCH later but this review is SEVERELY long enough JUST talking about the musique:

DJ's

Very front, perfect spot the WHOLE night....didn't even rest for ONE second the whole party.

Sander van doorn

Holy he was SIIIIICK. Hard beats just NON STOP!! and a few trance toons to fill the gap and give us a breather, like "black is the colour" etc. I remember him also playing his rework to "King of the Castle" or whatever. The crowd ATE HIM UP. He is so cute and in innocent, too, it is so strange to see a guy like that crank out the beats. Way better than in nyc imo, and thats saying something. sorry miss nada, I know you wanted to hear that !

Second Sun

Say what you will, but I truly thought I was gonna be bored during this. I went to the Looooong restroom and missed the first 20 minutes of their set. When I returned, I was SHOCKED to see the place going absolutely BANANAS, and at full capacity. I went back up front to see the commotion, and they were totally KILLING it. They had the crowd by the balls. MUCH more upbeat than in nyc, and since they were after Sander again, they really gave it to us. Antoine was just going psycho and I loved it! :eyes: :happy2: :tongue2 PLus he is slightly easy on the eyes. His patna was having a blast. lol

Armin
Let me tell you, this was SUCH a sick night of tunes that ARMIN was not even my fav!! lol He played an AMZING set, tho, and had the crowd eating out of his hands. The crowd was just PSYCHOTIC during his set. He hypnotized them and coulda asked them suck his left nipple and they woulda done it. LOL :haha: :haha: seriously the man has some sort of power over people. Lots of build-ups and hard beats being dropped. I think he knew he was in Montreal and kicked the intensity up a bit...dropped some sick beats. He was good about mixing it up and played some TrAnCeInYoUrPaNts, too. And lotsa jesus poses, I know you all like that! lol Too bad the sound was in up for him :( Always a pleasure, but my fav was still yet to come....

Above & Beyond

All I have to say is wow. Such a hard act to follow after armin took control of the crowd. This was where the classics came in. and I got to see Paavo in action, and what a fakin crazy ass NERD!! I loved it!! :haha: :haha: They guy was jumpin and dancing and singin all over the place, and Tony was reppin that as well! Tony practially got pulled INTO the crowd at the end when girls just started reaching for him and pulling him....thay loved them! I got to speak to Paavo, and asked why he had not played in NYC with the other two fellas. He said something like (Over the LOUD sound of toonage) he had never been to nyc but is making arrangements to come next time. He explained that he had a baby to take care of....awww. :) baby paavo ;)
anyways....SUCH great energy. Played a lot of classic tunes: Satellite, Alone Tonight, that sorta thing. Choon after choon, it was like a f*ckin SING-ALONG in there. LOFL It was great, too because it wasn't so hard....so that we could take a break from all the madness, but crazy enough to make the crowd (again) so crazy!!  Kinda funny too, when Tony was going a little nuts and slipped on his ass :) :) lol everyone was def laughin at that, and so was he! AMAZING SET, one of, if not the best I have heard from them.

The best sets I have heard from like ALL of the DJ's in one night.....they came to play.

and finally.....the best part of my weekend by a million miles:

PREACH

oh....my.....god. Can we say:DESTROYED??? I dont even have the words. The man came on at 10am, and after hours and HOURS of dancing, he still had all of us going PSYCHOTIC. Its the only word to use. I was so impressed that he kept that place so full til the very last moment and if you looked around people were still busting out hard! :eyes: :eyes: :eyes: :eyes: He played some SICK NASTY DISGUSTING tech/trance. Similar to SVD, but harder and more disgusting. He was so effin good that I can only think of negative words to describe it. lol He was RELENTLESS!!! AT one point, I was soo tired, but refused to miss a second of this ridiculousness. I PRAYED that he would actually give us ONE SINGLE toon that sucked so I could break, and he would not even give me that. not even ONE. I have never asked for something like that lol. At the end I felt as if someone had run me over with a car. By 11:30 am I had to physically support myself with my hands on the stage to keep dancing, but refused to leave. lol I was dying. If you wussed out, gave up and left before preach, you ought to really go cry in a corner somewhere. I even remember someone being rushed out on a stretcher at the end and someone commenting that they must have been dancing to preach's set. lol :eyes: :eyes: The irony of all this was that I had the pleasure of meeting him earlier on in the evening (morning?). When he asked where I was frome he said something like: "OMG you came from NYC?? well I dont know what you are going to expect but I have changed my style a bit and I hope you aren't dissapointed!" :haha: :haha: DISSAPOINTED!! maybe ONLY because I was wrecked and couldnt dance as hard as I wanted....thats about it! set of the year for me so far, and not because I love him, but because he proved to me WHY I loved him as a DJ.

In meeting preach: one the highlights of the year. I know he is not some supasta like armin, but I have such respect for this guy, and he has always been one of my fav's since the first time I saw him in mtl 3-4 years ago. Fahad, my love, is my hero for introducing us! Fahad claims it was a lightening strike from god that he ran into him in the vip bathroom, and asked him to talk with me. Apparently Phillipe knew who I was already??? So... that was flattering!! :) :) All of a sudden, fahad grabs me and pulls me running over to preach. Anwyas,I didn't know what fahad was doing as he dragged me around Bal, but then I see phillipe standing there waiting.... so all I would think was "omg I haven't prepared a speech!! (and started laughin at myself for being so silly!)" LOL!!....and it wasn't exactly my dream situation to meet phillipe at 9:30 am after retarded hours of nonstop dancing and lookin like , but I didn't even care. I was so excited! I dont even remember what I said! (this could be bad!lol).....
So surprised what came out of this guys mouth. He was so genuine and excited, intense and passionate, and sincerely friendly to me. He talked my effin ear off and I loved it! so much to say! He greeted me by yelling "happy birthday Kelly!!" mad loud...lol thats hot like fi-yah, bitches! :haha: Love this guy.....he does what he wants in life and music..... is confident about it, and throws it down proppa. Much love and respect to you!! At the end of his set, he came on stage as the lights and music turned off, and yelled: "Hey its this girls birthday and she is from new york, isn't she amazing??" lol the 20 drugged out people left in front of the stage all were like "awwwwwww its your birthday, thats awesome!!!" and hugs went flying!! lol ecstacy is some funny . LOFL!! haha the mini-shout out made my heart ----><3:)

anyways, this was one of the best musical nights of my clubbing life, and I wanted to share it with everyone (besides the requests from a million people for a long ass review with every detail).

Stories, conversations and moments will be added as nessecary and in person, but the music had to be told about first and foremost.

best birthday in YEARS!!! :) :) :)

Extremely friendly and generous in spending his time with the fans who love
him. It was Kelly's bday yesterday and she told me that she had previously
been in touch with Preach who was looking forward to seeing her out from
NYC. I went to the DJ area and saw him come downstairs just to talk to
this fan in a wheelchair, and while I waited I saw how genuinely Preach was
talking and joking with him. It was really rewarding to see that type of
plur coming from such a huge success. Then, to top it off, he came all the
way out on the main dance floor to meet Kelly and wish her a happy
birthday, and the two chatted for about 15 minutes, right before he was
about to go on. :toocool:
