First of all, thanks for a great night. I had a blast.
I arrived around 11 with the boys in tow and it was still pretty empty. It seemed like I walked into an empty room, went to the bar to order a drink and when I turned around the place was full...when did that happen? The sound in Butterfly isn't bad, but I found it to bee a little rich on the high-end frrquencies, so much that during a couple of build ups I saw the whole dance floor covering thier ears.
For the record, louder does not equal better. For the most part it was fine, just a bit loud in places. Nice lightshow for a small space and I had a blast with 'Fear and Loathing' on the wall above the booth. I like the position of the booth as well, gives the space the intimate feel it deserves. The roome itself? I'm a fan of the decor and lighting, and the booths are nice. The temerature was the main drawback. Within 30 minutes of the room filling up, the place was way too hot. I mean pressure cooker hot. I let the staff know and they vented the room and ten minutes later things were back to a comfortable level, but you never get rid of that stickiness once you've got it. Is it just me or were there a lot of people just standing around on the dance floor? I mean really, stand at the side of the room if you're just there to drink and be seen...how's a guy supposed to get funky when you're hanging out sipping a martini, you pretentious f*ck?
I have a sneaking suspicion that Jon Jon was holding back a little, which is understandable given the crowd, etc. Good tracks, lots I haven't heard in a while (or at all!)and it kept me moving. I noticed a few nice transitions in there. Matt, you were cooking as well, and those who left early missed out. Wish the vinyl would have worked out for you, but it was great hearing some of your creations in there.
All in all a great night out, thanks Jon for the guestlist. Any TOTA that hasn't given Butterfly a run should make a point of doing so. I will be back. |

Upside: Dave likes hot, sweaty girls.
Sweaty girls = hot
Sweaty guys...not so much.
Keep glowin' ladies, keep glowin'!
Edit - Awesome to see Harcourt out and about...wish I had more of a chance to chat. |

I was sorry to have missed this one as it was on a weekend and I haven't seen Jon play since the summer... unfortunately I had a gig in Cambridge but I'm glad the night was a success and hopefully we can keep it going! |

I walked in later than Jon Jon had started, they tried to insist it was dead earlier, but you wouldn't know it by 12:30, was rammed. Good times, I think the Jon Jon allegiance slowly left when he was done. Started to thin out, hahaha. Love that Murk Moby Remix. |

I had a fantastic time on Saturday night!
Arrived to the club at around 11:30 with my ladies <3. This was my first time on the main floor of Butterfly and it was quite lovely- beautiful club and very fun small venue vibe.
Plopped ourselves in front of the dj booth and proceeded to dance our asses off for Jon's entire set. Had an absolute blast- so many tunes I adore, fav of the night being Nelly/Justin/Timb's "Give it to me" sick.
Track selection was upbeat and kept us going nonstop as in true Jon Jon fashion. I am my Jon's biggest fan but I was def not alone, he had the entire club boogying from the moment he started :D
good tunes, good friends xo |

Overall, a great night...I got there just before 12 with some friends, and the place was filling up quite nicely...Jon did a fun, upbeat set, which had us groovin near the front...(good job Jon)....I agree though that there were a lot of people there that were a little bit "what is this music, and why are there people jumping around to it?"..lol...BUT it was still a great time...(nice to meet you Tara and Danielle btw)....
as for the venue, it was my first time at Butterfly and I was pleasantly surprised.....the venue itself is quite nice, and has more of an upscale feel to it....the only thing missing was that cool vibe you get with a great crowd that appreciates the music....hopefully that will get better over time.....anyways, I'm always glad to go out and support friends/local talent and given Butterfly's potential would definitely check it out again....

all in all GOOD TIMES!! Jon never disappoints. Pretty sure people thought we were nuts, but at least we were enjoying ourselves :D
only weird thing about butterfly is where the bathrooms are located, opening right onto the dancefloor, and they were communal bathrooms, lol!! |
