| Most of my family on my dad's side has been involved in law enforcement or the military in some way or another. My mom is a VP and has always been involved with software engineering and IT. I sort of went down that route education wise, but right now I'm more into music and production (tv stuff). So I dunno...no? Definitely happens though. The case with my dad, him and his brother were in the military and most of their cousins and even some of my cousins are either police or army right now. |

I don't see myself taking part in either of the careers my parents chose (my mom is an LN or an RN, I can't remember, at a nursing home and my dad is assistant director of food & beverage at a local casino). I do, however, take after my dad in a lot of things, especially work ethic.
Now that I look at it I'm basically emulating my dad without even realizing it. Basically, we both took a job during high school just to pay for random and college, and then we ended up making a career out of it. The only difference is that I don't really know if I want to make a career working in retail. |

the only aspect that i've followed in my parents footsteps is music, and even that's a bit of a stretch... they're classical musicians and i'm a DJ.
both my parents went to college and got their master's degrees, and they both work in music-related jobs.
i tried college, didn't really enjoy it, and decided i'd be able to make it on my own as a graphic artist without a degree, which i've been doing professionally since i was 17.
my brother is starting his masters degree in nuclear engineering this year.
so really... neither my brother or myself "followed" in my parents footsteps. i don't think we ever wanted to be exactly like our parents, although there are certain aspects of our school/professional careers that have been influenced by our parents. my brother studies very hard just like my mother did, and my dad's hobby is photography and he's got a very creative mind just like myself. |

my dad hasn't really cared what i've done since i was a kid, and although my mom would have been proud of me had i gone to college, she isn't any less proud of me for the route that i chose to follow. she has always been super supportive in all my decisions, and from the time i was a little girl she always taught me to be independent and to choose my own happiness without worrying about other people.
i never felt like college was something i had to do. i'm just lucky that i had a skill and talents that could get me a great job without a degree... and i absolutely love what i do. |
