Oh, come on people - it's not THAT great. Especially those tracks with Raz Ohara vocals. That guy's voice at times is so ing annoying!!! It seems like Apparat is trying to take the more poppy direction, something along the lines of Royksopp perhaps. And that can't be good. The high points of "Walls" are: Useless Information, Fractales, Birds, Arcadia, and especially You Don't Know Me. There is much better stuff out there at the moment that goes by unnoticed. |
I don't see anything wrong with that - regardless if it's apparat or royksopp. opinions like "pop = bad" seem a little outdated to me. Furthermore i highly doubt that sascha ring aka apparat cares for genres. |

Umm, let's see. These aren't very similar to Apparat, but still I would recommend Talkdemonic, Lymbyc System, The Octopus Project |

Nice suggestions even if I like Apparat the same. You and I should have a good downtempo chat where you recommend me more things like this :p |

This album is very very good, but still, these poppy, r'n'b moments are getting on my nerves! At times it sounds like M83 which is good though! I think that "duplex" and "silizium" are better in comparison to this.
Anyway, another fantastic IDM/ambient album from 2007 that went unnoticed was
Proem- "A Permanent Solution"
Amazing atmospheric-melodic IDM that reminds of Bola at his very best. Ofcourse, there were more better ambient/electronica albums in 2007 like:
Port-Royal- "Afraid To Dance"
Lights Out Asia- "Tanks and Recognizers"
World's End Girlfriend- "Heartbreak Wonderland"
Efterklang- "Under Giant Trees"
Stars of the Lid- "And Their Refinement of The Decline"
The World On Higher Downs- "Land Patterns"
Kashiwa Daisuke- "Program Music I"
and more... |

Whats the best track on the album according to you guys?
Mine's Useless Information, without a doubt. Top ten track of the year to me. |

Not sure if they're better...but impressive of course. "Alpine Low" on Land patterns is great. Maybe take a listen to the following albums:
Future Loop Foundation - Memories from a fading room
Telefon Tel Aviv - Remixes Compiled (and actually any previous TTA album)
Kompakt Pop Ambient 2008
People Press Play - People Press Play
And the best Downtempo Release ever in my opinion, though it's old:
Danny Howells - Global Underground 24/7 - Day Disc |

Cheers for the recommendations. I actually have every Telefon Tel Aviv album myself (my favorite being "Fahrehneit Fair Enough"). Amazing band. Pop Ambient releases are a stable reference, there is always quality there. I own some past releases (the 2003 and 2005 were amazing so i guess the same would go for the next ones). Future Loop Foundation are ok, but too "background-loungey" for my taste. I want music to be more directional and dynamic. I didn't know of this band you mentioned though..."People Press Play". Samples sounds great. I like this "Lali Puna/DNTEL/The Postal Service etc/" (maybe M83?) type of indie-tronica, i'm always in search for such music and these guys fit the bill perfectly! Thanks for that! |

Sure, m83 is a project to name in this list - i have their previous 2 albums but haven't listened to "digital shades" yet.
Some advertisement on my own may come in handy in this discussion ;) maybe check out my "Hello Sundays!" - mixes. I try to feature a wide variety of styles in there. They are available on http://www.feihstel.com
Some other recommendations might be..
BT - This Binary Universe (you probably know this one, but imo it was surprisingly good)
The Cinematic Orchestra - Ma Fleur (also quiet popular - justified though)
Vector Lovers - Afterglow
Psapp - The Only Thing I Ever Wanted
Other honourable mentions are Prefuse 73, Squarepusher, Air (of course), Tricky, Ullrich Schnauss, Brian Eno, Ratatat, Death In Vegas... |
