I'm using it in Cubase sx3, I think it works in most hosts. Free vst called sidekick:

Check out the description of how to use sidekick at the bottom of this post on DOA:

How good is that! Insert sidekick into bass track, another instance in kick track, click a few buttons and you're good to go. ;)

Well sidechaining is basically using one sound to make another one drop in volume. Like Benny Benassi - Satisfaction. Usually it's used to make the bass drop in volume whenever the kick plays, because otherwise the bass will clash with the kick and make it sound crap.

Some ways of sidechaining only work in mono, this method is stereo.

I didnt realise most of them were in mono. Thats no good!

Im a fruity user and the asiet and most effective way of sidechaning is using its peak controller. You set the kick (i rather do a muted kick so i can use it not just when the kick is on) to the peak controller, and link the volume, or eq, or filter or whatever u want to the peak controller. When the kick hits, the volume can be set to go down by however much you want. Its stereo as its not actually processing the sound, just automating something when the kick hits. Works wonders! :)

Fruity sounds like it has some nice tricks up it's sleeve. You can usually achieve these things in cubase but the routing can be a nightmare. Also, it's normally the users rather than steinberg, who figure it out!

Yeah i think the simplicity and the fact that its so quick and intuitive to work with is why people choose it. I know thats why im on it and cant unhook myself!

Problems are usualy found by the users yeah, i see countless posts on the FL forums about little glitches and stuff, i never notice them to be honest and never notice when they are fixed !
DJ Milano
yea I've been using FL studio and I do know what your talking about. I've been trying to look over other programs but they are much more complicated. Fruity definitely is the best program for a beginner or anyone who doesn't want to read dozens of tutorials before making music.

within fruity loops there is so much great power

i know this isnt production but u can sidechain on the decks by cutting the kick out each beat with the crossfader and u get a woomphing bass effect. thats sidechaining is this right?
flutlicht junky
No dude thats called gating! A very useful creative effect and / or processing technique if used to cut out low volume sounds.
