We were getting blitzed listening to Xtal by Aphex Twin and we ing tested one another on how well one knows the world - politically, culturally, historically whatever.

Like "Do you know the capital of [Country X]?" and all these follow up questions about you might not even know if you weren't interested in other places to begin with. I won the ing Geography Bee when I was younger 3 years in a row, I was just a ing maniac with it. People have started saying they can't even ask me questions about it anymore because it is too depersonalizing because they know that I will know it already, but I think this is bull because there is no way you could know every nuance of every culture that exists in the world.

So how well do TAs know places outside of the horizontal boundaries of a "state."

Tell me about Brisbane. Do it.

No Google.

I asked my friend in Everett, Washington, where Idaho is and she didn't know :wtf: It's right next to Wa, but she still had no clue. :whip:

I'd say I know quite a bit about quite a few places, but nowhere near everything about every city.

I make the following assumptions...

Everyone is exposed to Celebrity News.
Almost everyone is exposed to TV News.
Most everyone is exposed to Paper News.

I have tested this. I was at the Quickie (kinda like the Kwik-e-Mart but the real thing) and I queried a black woman in a wheel chair (I mention these details only to help identify her), she claimed to have Zero celebrity news knowledge... so I asked her who Brad Pitt was dating... she knew :D

Anything outside of those three sources is self-taught and you have to look into them yourself. There thousands of topics in the world. Cities is one of them. There are thousands of cities in the world.

In other words there is too much information in the world to randomly want to read about Brisbane. You will only learn about it if you arrive there via a non-random route.

As for Brisbane, I know what Bane means, and I know it is in Queensland :clown:

Honestly, you should know where every country is. You should know their capitals as well.

Stop complaining, cheese .

No ? I was a finalist for the MN geography bee like 10 years ago. Question I got out on was "What group of islands lies directly on the International Dateline between Alaska and Russia in the Bering Strait?"
Allied Nations
What's the answer?
