5 dollars a gram seems alright.

it's better then some other pills being sold.

and there is research being done. i know that for a fact. there is research being done on different administration of the THC so you don't have to smoke a joint for it. there are already different therapies in clinical trials being used on people with various pain disorders.

It is nothing even close to warranting a markup of 20%, let alone 1500%. Nor is the research required to improve growing conditions, research, all that garbage that you mentioned costly enough to warrant a mark-up so high. The fact that you fail to see this is down right disturbing.

I see where you are coming from dude, but you seem to basing your knowledge on this one article alone. Do you have any other evidence that backs up what this article states? Do you even know where the money is being spent? I would be very skeptical about the media nowadays, and this is definitely no exception. 5$ a gram is a more than fair price, yes it could be lower, but that will come with more investment, more patients using and more supply being grown (all this needs money).

I know someone on a clinical trial for oral-spray THC (Sativex) and trust me the product is not cheap, the research trial is not cheap, the scientists working on the product are not cheap, the certification of the drug is not cheap, etc, etc, etc.

Andrew will tell you the same thing. Clinical trials and developing new therapies are not cheap things to do (gov't involvement or not).

We are not talking about this sort of stuff. This discussion is centered around smokeable marijauna and smokeable marijauna only.

We're also not talking college kids smoking blunts. If it is for medical use - it is THERAPY.

No medical regulatory body is going to accept something as therapy without research (initial and ongoing), regulations, controls and oversight (all which are expensive).

BTW - Sativex is non-synthetic (meaning it is extracted from GROWN plants which the gov't's subcontractor grows).

i would think that these people aren't getting blitzed for the weekend by smoking 30 grams of weed in 2 days. it's a therapy where they injest .25 of a gram a day or some other small amounts.

Actually these patients are smoking a lot, grams a day, not fractions of a gram.

absolutely...depending upon the illness being treated.

some use it to simply stimulate appetite as other meds or their illness reduces it.

some, who use it for pain, may smoke/ingest quite a bit.

I don't doubt that a fair bit of research and costs go into the product, but this markup is ridiculously unecessary.

keep in mind that pot is NOT covered, like other meds. Given that the money is coming from patients pockets, I'd like to see the gov't chill on the markup or at least tailor prices to income.

charging near-street prices when your "bulk buying" reduces costs to 1500x lower is not cool.

this isn't a profit issue...i.e. I'm not pissed at the gov't "making money" here, becuase they probably are not, in the end.

it's about patients not having to pay unecessarily high $$$ for their "treatment". If it's legit "treatment", then the full costs of the pot should not be borne by the patients, IMHO.

I would be willing to bet a significant amount of money that your average medicinal marijauna smoker is smoking anywhere from 1-3 grams a day. Injesting .25 of a gram or even smoking .25 of a gram is such a ludacrisly small amount of marijuana...especially for someone who uses on a regular basis.

I would also think that medicinal marijauna users are getting just as blitzed, just as regularly as your token teenage pothead.
