Julia, it has nothing to do with you liking trance. I hardly listen to much trance these days - but it's your condescending demeanor, the way you act like you're better than people who like it when three years ago you were on the front cover of Ferry's Spundae LA CD with your hands up in the air. :) |
Hmmm, I'm sorry I gave off that demeanor, but almost everyone I know started off listening to trance (just like me). Now, I don't know if it's just me, but trance music used to be WAY better years ago. It's all just cheesey vocals, drum rolls, and predictable drops now, from what I hear these days. I have yet to hear a recent trance song that compares to the classics from when I used to like trance.
Or maybe I just grew up and can't get into the "throw your hands in the air and take out your glow sticks" music anymore. I dunno. |

You're right. It's not what it once was - and its not just because you've changed over the years. The scene has grown bigger, and as such the music has become more commercial and many of the bigger name trance DJs have been forced to maintain the commercial trend because until recently, thats what has paid the best. There aren't very many real trance DJs left these days. |

I agree with you here. Sadly, most trance these days just isn't what it used to be. But, there are exceptions. Some stuff on GTR's Five AM label, JOOF Recordings, Club Elite, Propulsion, yada yada. But it's hard to find quality trance now. I'm finding more and more techno producers creating "more old-school sounding trance" than stuff right now that's being passed off as it. Some producers who come to mind are:
Dominik Eulberg
Gregor Tresher
Joel Mull
Stephan Bodzin
Anyways, I wasn't trying to make this battle of the genres war - because I hate classifying music I like. It's just good or bad. And Raoul, right on man - exactly on point.

My plane leaves Sac at 4:15pm tomorrow. Might need to disable the smoke alarm in the bathroom. :p |

I agree, trance just isnt the same anymore...it is all to similiar in its patterns and sounds.
that is why i have moved into progressive, which has created an endless world of choices and is very flexible for all crowds, musical tastes, venues, timeslots, etc.
you can be all over the place but still be consistant. And im into the booty shakin stuff rather then the throw your hands up ...which is just so routine now days. |
