MIDI from Live track to PD/Quartz Composer

Hi,

I'm working on a small project for a music production class as an elective. Since I'm not much of a musician I've decided to do something a little more technical. My professor has a real hard on for PD and I like working in Live.

What I'm trying to do is create visual in Quartz Composer and some effects in PD using MIDI triggers from separate MIDI tracks in Live. I can route this right now using IAC driver and just creating a IAC channel for each track. It actually works quite well. The only problem is, in Live, if I have a MIDI track it gives you the option of sending the MIDI data somewhere else, and I can select an IAC channel to pipe it to. But, as soon as you put an instrument in the track, it changes this to "Send Audio" which isn't what I need.

So I'm wondering if there's either, another way to get the MIDI from a track with a soft synth in it, or if there's some type of AU/VST any one may know of that will export the MIDI data before or after it reaches the softsynth.

(The only work around I know of right now is to create 2 midi tracks for each instrument. One to hold the data/notes only and send it to an IAC channel. Then creating a second track that reads data from that IAC channel and hosts the softsynth. Since two or more apps can read from the IAC drive simultaneously, it works as a way to patch all the apps to a single track, but this also requires 2 tracks in Live per midi instrument since I want to do different reactions in PD and Quartz Composer depending on the instrument. IE, a big flashes on bass notes and animating something else on the strings etc etc, which will add up fast at 2 tracks in Live per instrument.)
