Learn how to use Bank and Program change messages. Insert at the start of your song, and voila, instant recall of patches via midi. Not that hard, and been doing it for ten years. | I thought so, and thats great, but what would be the most appropriate, would be if you use a patch and u edit it, it would load to the last settings automaticly like a VST. |

I'm looking for something like this too.. a nifty front end for the jp8080 that controls things via midi.. so this sound diver thing works a treat? |
Yes.
But bear in mind, it is a stand alone application that requires taking control of your midi in/out ports.
Core usage is as a sound design assistance tool / patch/library manager.
AFAIK, not really anything that you can utilise internally in Cubase (or utilising the vst standard).
You could use patchs scripts / control panels. But I think the core issue is the ability to address parts of sysex from Cubase from a vst instrument. ie: just not possible in the vst framework.
So something like the "Pulse" or "Virus A/B/C" editor from Rekon, or ones I built in Reaktor to control, say my old Novation A-Station, can be used for CC messages.
Once you start getting heavily into Sysex, and thus chasing after the parameters that typically wouldn't be available on the front panel, you are hitting the limitations of the vst framework.
eg: AFAIK, The Rekon Virus editor, can do singles, but has no capabilities to work with multis. Not because of their app, but quite simply because you cannot address the Low and High page sysex data of the Virus via midi.
I could build something in Reaktor for the JP, or I could code a vst to do it, but seeing as my JP sits about 25cm's away, whats the point? |

Like a vst? But we are not talking about vst's.
Either just store the patch, and reference that, or record whilst tweaking, then consolidate all the cc data into a preroll area before your track actually starts.
At the risk of sounding rude, and I really don't mean to, just program in the cc changes.
Only other thing I can think of would be having a vst that stores the cc settings, then sends these as a dump upon initiating the song. But why not just store the patch then? |

Just to mention that the JP8080 ADA that is supplied with Sound diver has serious short comings. Its unable to see the entire memory of a JP8080, including the patches on a memory card, and its biggest short fall is that you're unable to edit the JP8080 patches. I think the JP8000 ADA works fine though.... |

I'll tell you why: You have lazy ppl like me who will pay you money for it. The sweet thing about the Rekon Pulse editor is it saves all the patches right in the vst.. so when you start the project it sends all the cc data to the pulse, I never store patches on the pulse since I got the vst..
You can put a bank change cc in the preroll? I'm kinda interested now.. can you tell me how to record a bank change? I usually change banks with JPLIB program. |

anyone know anythinga bout getting a jp8000 repaired? I kinda had an accident last week setting it up on a flimsy keyboard stand.. didn't notice any damage until today it froze on me 3 times and now it will just freeze booting up sometimes =(
it might just be because today i was playing with some crazy huge downloaded midis with like 100 cc changes at the begining and they were getting sent to the jp by accident and messed up a bunch of my patches too lol.. |

Audio Electronics here in Plano, TX is one of the premier shops for repairing all types of gear, including Roland, all across the country. They are an authorized Roland repair shop and one of the best.

If you do not want to have to ship it to Texas, then I'd suggest just searching for "Roland repair california" on google. I'm sure there are quite a few Roland repair shops in California. |

Yeah I'd definitely take it in ASAP. I have a very good friend that repairs electronics at Audio Electronics and he says that as time goes on it can become harder to get parts for older synths such as the JP series since Roland stopped manufacturing it a few years ago. However it should still be possible to repair it as long as the main circuit board isn't damaged in any way. |
