Shhh...it's a secret. MPPs get ANOTHER raise!!!

This is too bloody much. Remember the $22 000 pay hike the MPPs voted themselves before going on Christmas break? Well, there was some fine print that ensures any increase seen by our Federal MPs is matched by the province. The Feds have just recieved a 2% hike.
This makes it a 28% raise for our clueless leaders since December.

damn greedy politicians. I should campaign for MPP or MP :D too bad I'm a minority.

We should be paying MPPs even more then they get paid now!

How does the public expect to attract good talent to government management when the pay is significantly less than private sector high-level management positions?

True. After this raise McGuinty is going to be paid approx $202,000 a year. Compare that to the salary of a CEO of any large organization, and the pay scale is considerably skewed.

The truth is, we see public servants, as exactly that, servants. We feel that because they are working for the government (you and I), they should be paid less because the noble act of working for the people should be praise enough.

That's capitalism...some giant corporation that pays $350K/year isn't paying with MY money.

I would like to see some results, aside from a ban on pit-bulls, before we start coughing up. And who's brilliant idea is it to let them vote thier own raise? If I could do that I'd be making $112K too.

Don't start that now. In Canada, whites are still the single largest racial group.

In the first 605 days in office, Dalton and his crew broke 50 election promises, roughly one every 12 days. I think he's up around 238 or so (I couldn't find the exact figure) by now. Find a CEO that can lie like this to his shareholders and still keep his job.

RJ, you were saying in another thread about lying on your resume being grounds for dismissal...let's dump this turd and get a Premier with some integrity. I swear if he gets another term I'm moving out of province.

Talent is like everything else - you get what you pay for.

If you don't pay your politicians par with the market rate you get private sector flunkies running the show (which is pretty much what we have now).

We need private sector superstars managing our province and country with skill, vigor and focus (and that's not going to happen with low payscales).

Thats fair, he has not done a good job, but I should have stated that I was referring to the position and not the specific person.

Replace McGuinty, and the next person will get the exact same salary.

AGREED.

The premier of Ontario, a province with a population of well 12,000,000, only makes approximately $150,000 a year. Given the competencies of his job, I'd say that's WELL below what the private sector would pay for someone such as himself. Same goes for MPPs

That's why we have these wonderful things called elections. If you don't like the leadership, you vote for someone else.

It's the other 12 000 000 I worry about.
