| I just added a vermona action filter II plus the other day. I love the control it gives me over the resonance of my sound. Besides a efx 1000, what else have you guys come across that really improves the quality of your mixing? |

The vermonas are awesome- top choice.
Choice of the pros too- on many dj's riders those are.
Personally, switching to rotary mixers marked a big change in mixing sty1e and sound. |

the rotary dials for the djm 800 are like 100 something dollars, hard for me to rationalize spending 100 dollars on 4 knobs
But maybe i will |

A 2x RCA to 2x mono 1/4" jack cable... not sure if it necessarily improves the quality of my mixing, but it's good fun! When connected from the fx send into a channel on my DN-X1500, it allows me to play the sampler back through a channel and thus use EQ etc on it ;)
There are quite a lot of quite useful things you can do with some creative wiring :) |

I think it's more than $100 actually.
I know I paid like $300 or something more for my 92 with rotaries.
It's not just the knobs, don't forget thost velvetty expensive pots underneath. They go for quite a bit on their own (at least $30 a piece just for the part).
Rotaries definately change the way you mix. I just did a super smooth mix last night without touching the eq's or anything else on the mixer... just careful volume control is all you need.
Filters are definately another super-useful item to have...

:toothless Couldn't agree more - I'm so glad I chose the filters on the 92 over the effects on the Nuo5 |

do most people use 1 filter per cdj? i am poor so i am using one through my send recieve right now.
Is there another way i can use my one filter in conjunction with both cdjs AND use the effects onboard the djm 800 at the same time to layer them?
I know i could prob do this if i connected the mixer >filter > output but then when i recorded the filter wouldnt be present in the mix.
Any suggestions? |

+1
Have been mixing on more and more rotaries in clubs (mainly the rane) and I think it's really pushing me to excel in my track selection... if you pick the 2 perfect jams it's like butter on a rotary. |

Doesn't the 800 have an efx send/return? As long as you can "affect" the master output (or one cdj at a time if you prefer), you should be fine.
Though "layering" them might be a bit much :)

| it does have a send return, thats what i am doing now, what i want to do is use the onboard effects AND the filter at the same time AND record it |

But why are you CURRENTLY using the send/return if you are using the ONBOARD effects?
The s/r is for external effects... and it should be present on the record out?
Or does the 800 not let you use both at once?
