You mean Toronto Island? That would be cool. Then we wouldn't hear complaining about the music coming from the Docks anymore. I say do it. |

I thank God everyday that I have a good family and that I continue to be employed, and yes I know that there are alot of able bodied people out there that choose not to work and live on the streets but there is alot of people who were like you and me with families and jobs and happened and they have been left with nothing. Also there is a ton of mental heath cases out there and service for these people isn't that great. They have to take to the streets to survive. I tend to give sandwiches, and coffee and even smokes to people on the street. I have many times given change in my pockets as well. What these people do with the money is their choice, I have never been a crack addict. I have never lost everything that was important to me. I dont know what kinda pain that may cause and if that is what they need to get through what they going through, untill they are ready to deal with things and start climbing their way back, then so be it.

| the only reason I posted this thread was that I thought they invested in blue chip stocks and mutual funds. As for putting convicts on an Island, that's been done before: Australia. I just didn't realize how slimey drug dealers are though...makes you wonder what's actually in those disco biscuits. |

The only problem with that is that once going down the crack road, not many are ever able to climb back out. It really just makes it worse. Giving smokes is 'almost' up their in my opinion as well since it's just feeding another expensive addiction that they don't need.
If I lost my home I would 1) cancel my cell phone, 2) sell some stuff and 3)give up all expensive crap that I don't need. (for me it would be coffee and other stuff like that, but if I smoked and drank, you bet they would be at the top of my chopping block list) |

one thing i've noticed about a lot of pandhandlers is that they don't tend to observe how much money you place in their cups or hats when you drop them in. a good tactic i've found is to purchase foreign currency coins of low nominal value such as a Mexican peso or Chinese yen to carry around with you. if they beg just drop the coins to effectively ward off their inconvenience at minimal expense to yourself.
