Total guess but I reckon it could be to do with the desire to have palms flat at the bottom of the mixer. I used to remove my cross fader on older mixers too, just cos I'll never use it and it got in the way.

Also, in response to whoever said to me that I should cut with the cross fader rather than the faders, you have less control that way. And to cut with the line/phono switch - WTF? No way!

you nailed it..i never use it and the xfader just gets in the way. plus the plate is obviously designed to be removed and replaced with a closed cover (as most x-faders need replacing every now and then) it just makese sense to me. in reality the only thing I ever used it for was a mapped wet/dry in ableton for that particular effect a knob is better anyways so its just wasting space in my opinion.

On certain mixers cutting with the line/phono switch can work very well. I remember doing this on a friend's Ecler SMAC Pro which had toggle switches for line/phono selection that didn't crackle or distort when you threw them... they were perfect. I've tried it on a fair few other mixers but they weren't up to par.

the whole point of rotaries is smoothness in the first place so why would cutting even fall into that conversation.
Ryan0751
Because you don't want EVERY mix to sound the same?

btw i'm also in the market for the rotary kit...anyone with one installed on the djm800 care to offer their opinion?

man, that's ludicrous! first off, WHY would you want to take your crossfader right out? cuz you don't use it? well, neither do i, but i don't think that's any reason to take it right out.

just set all your channels to THRU (the little A-thru-B switch below each channel fader)

then, the crossfader does nothing. if you really wanted, you could take it right out, and just leave a gaping hole there, maybe cover it over with electrical tape.. but why god, why?

ofcourse i've already set the channels to Thru i'm not a ing retard.

as I've mentioned before the x-fader is designed to come out as the cover plate has screws on it which i would screw back in except the the actual xfader itself would be missing so no gaping hole. I don't like having it there and it's completely useless to me so the original inquiry was whether or not there was a plate without the slit for the x-fader instead of the plate that is under the xfader knob by default.
Briden
gotcha, sorry, i didn't read the second page before i hit reply. i still think your crazy, but, hey, if that's the way you wanna do it, then go for it i suppose. i think you would still have a gaping hole though.

all DJM crossfaders are similar design, here is a picture:

edit:

you know what, I was looking and your definately right! i didnt see that the outer screws were part of the larger djm800 faceplate so your totally correct in there being a gaping hole! sorry man!

regardless, I'm wondering if they sell a replacement cover peice for that as the xfader is completely useless for me.
Briden
no mate, that's what i am telling you. the "slit" will be the size of the entire crossfader assembly.

here, i made you a picture, i am bored at work:

that's what your going to end up with.
