Half Life 2 HELP!!
View this Thread in Original format

hello, im really stuck on half life 2 on the PC, im on Chapter 10 in the prison and im up to this part where you have to fend of a hoard of combines with 3 turrets.
Ive tried placing them in different areas and they keep knocking them over and im usually dead in 5 mins!!

Any pointers on how to get past this part and where to place the turrets , i really dont want to resort to cheat codes so any tips will be helpful.

Thank you all in advance :D

Fool around with different placements, I got it on my first try. I can't remember what I did, I had 2 on one far side and then 1 at the top and it worked out fine. I always ducked and hid and let the turrets do all the work, every now and then I would pop out and snipe and then run back and hide. Worked for me.

Place the turrets where they will be able to get first line of sight or in a position where they can only get attacked direct on. If I remember correctly they (bad guys) all came down in stacks in a line down the same area.

Try stacking boxes in front of the turrets so that their legs can't get shot out. Also narrows down the hallway. (It's been a while since I played this game, but I'm pretty sure there are some boxes/crates in the hallway you can use to shield the turrets, even if momentarily)

this is where i got frustrated. i think its just trial and error.

but if you have a large number of previous saves you can go back to earlier in that level and carry one of the earlier turrets with you and then have four.

that sounds helpful, but i wasnt that smart about saving|

I found it quite easy. The hardest part is the last part.

i found this fairly easy it took me 2 or 3 goes.
Remember that u can pick up the turrets if they get knocked over using the grav gun

when i got to this part i had like 5 or 6 or 7 turrets (i forget which). three of them were from the cases in the prison but a couple of others i had brought along from some previous mission (a tedious process). so i placed two facing the long corridors and behind boxes like someone else mentioned so that their legs wold be shot from under them, and then placed two more facing the doors that are close to the control room. i also placed these behind boxes. i think i placed one or two at the entrance of the control room for insurance.

whenever i had these turrets, i alway brought along as many as possible. i found them very helpful in many many situations.

A cheap way to beat that part of the mission is to stack crates up against the entrances of the block right where the force fields activate and the combine enter. The combine will not try to break through your man-made barriers but just keep one of the entrances open and have all three turrets aimed right at the one open spot.

Pretty difficult to get killed this way, although, every now and then a combine will run past the turrets after you so be on the lookout. Boom stick is weapon of choice here for me.

That part was nasty. I think I was running around all the time to help out the turrets :p Maybe I'll reinstall Half life 2 this weekend, was a pretty good campaign imo.

I got it first time. In fact I thought HL2 was incredibly easy. I played it on hard first time through.

If any of you play HL2: Deathmatch, PLEASE add me to your steam friends. I'm Sunsnail. I play a lot and it'd be nice to own some TAs.
