Astronomers have spotted “the first habitable Earth-like planet” outside the solar system, a find so enticing that Canada’s space telescope is being redirected to take a closer look.

I know :(

Time to terraform Mars. Who knows if how long it will really take and if it be stable enough. Pretty much playing god :haha:

i have never heard of red dwarfs before but usually dwarfs are dead stars ...

i have only heard of black and white dwarfs ...

our sun when it dies will become a white dwarf it is believed .. due to some calculations ...

before a star dies it goes super nova witch means that it grows in size .. then collapses on itself to become either a white dwarf, black dwarf, black hole, or neutron star ... but here we are talking about red dwarf ... witch is totally different ...

when the sun goes super nova on us it will eat up the earth ... but this is only in a few million years :)

so if a red dwarf is anything like a white dwarf i doubt there would be any life on this planet ... but i didn't really study astrophysics at a high level ... so anything is possible

Gliese 581 is among the 100 closest stars to Earth, located 20.5 light-years away in the constellation Libra. This means light takes 20.5 years to travel from Gliese 581 to Earth."

By the time we have space ships sophisticated enough to get us there, we'll have destroyed our planet...I say we find ways to save Earth instead...Humans complicate things for nothing...

I disagree.

Surely you understand that the earth will not be able to maintain human life for the rest of existance. Resources run out, wear and tear happens, civilization ages.

*GOES ALL STEPHEN HAWKINGS*

The future of mankind rests on the exploration and possible civilization of other planets. Earth will run out of water, space, food and... frankly... everything!

Meh

"Red dwarfs fuse hydrogen to helium via the proton-proton (PP) chain. Due to the low temperatures in the core, fusion proceeds slowly. Consequently they emit little light, sometimes as little as 1/10,000th that of the sun. In general red dwarfs transport energy from the core to the surface via convection. As red dwarfs are fully convective, they can burn a larger proportion of their hydrogen before leaving the main sequence than larger stars, such as the Sun. Thus red dwarfs have an enormous estimated lifespan; from tens of billions up to trillions of years depending upon mass; the lower the mass, the longer the lifespan." Courtesy of wikipedia

it also mentions how any planets to be warm enough around the a red dwarf have to be so close that they would be tidally locked, and not rotate like our planet does, so one side would be day the other night forever, and make huge tempature differences.
ANYWAYS who cares, better to try and fix our planet then always running away from problems.

Idiot we can't fix earth, you don't see the big picture!!!

We are like any other parasite out there. We will consume the resources and then move on. Survival of the fittest.

Expanding into the stars is the only way!

Your stupidity amazes me daily.
I doubt you've EVER read anything by Stephan Hawkings.
Our planet is perfect in everyway for humans to live on for as long as the planet exists. It's simply the way people live today which is not in harmony with how are planet works. Either way, humans are so incompetant at solving our own issues today, that I doubt we could ever work together to achieve something as great as inhabiting another planet.

Go smoke another joint marcus.
