Work with them, instead of against them. If they are so determined to obtain technology, let's help them out, instead of punishing them. This way, we could regulate how far they enrich, and how they use the technology itself.

You don't strike me as the kind of person who has ever stopped to think about anything from any perspective other than your own, so I'll help you out with this one. Think about it, why would Iran want to develop a nuclear bomb? They're a historically strong (and proud) nation that finds itself more and more marginalized due to the somewhat counterintuitive positions of the United States. It's government is the product of a revolution to overthrow a corrupt regime that served only the upper 5% of the population. The United States, fully supporting a regime that had no interest in serving the masses so much as foreign capital interests, didn't really like the revolution. So we threatened them. They retaliated, and we used the instance to cut all diplomatic ties. For the last 25 years we have refused to even acknowledge Tehran's existence. We also funded a full-scale war against them, while simultaneously selling them weapons to make sure they could sustain it long enough to bleed themselves out. So damn right they're pissed at us. The government of Iran has realized (correctly) that the absolute only way they will retain any relevance on the global stage is to achieve a nuclear capability. They are deathly afraid of the United States right now, and are like a dog backed into a corner. The only way to make sure that the bully, which has a history of poor treatment and a track record of attacking the neighbors with little reason, doesn't strike them is to make sure they have very sharp teeth indeed.
So to answer your question - we don't make them stop developing a nuclear bomb by piling more threats or military action on top of them. We work with them through proper diplomatic channels to assure them that the United States does not want to start a major war in the Middle East. Then they may not feel the imperative to arm themselves to the teeth. |
