WOW!!!
On my way home tonight I crossed the Bay Bridge to see the entrances to both highways I can take to get back home closed. The 880 and 580.
As I progress I see a HUGE fire and thick black smoke above me with firetrucks shooting water on it from all sides across from other highways.
Everyone was forced to take I-80 towards Sacramento and traffic getting off of exits was a bit of a nightmare!!
Whelp, just got home and turned on the news. The heat from the explosion has caused a part of the maze to full on collapse! And it's the eastbound I-80 connector to eastbound 580! WOWOWOW.
Traffic is gonna be FUUUCKKKKED for awhile, especially during commute.

I just saw this on the news today also. Only the driver was hurt in the accident. I assume if it was a busy day, it would have been disastrous. It's most likely going to insanity once Monday comes.
I'm glad you didn't get caught in that, Dave. |

"...The truck driver took a taxi to a nearby hospital..."
2nd degree burns to his body, 200 foot flames, and he jumps in a cab? :wtf: |

westbound is fine, eastbound is the real mess
my rule of traffic is never follow traffic flow
if 580 is mandatory on your route I would just exit off West Grand on the 880 merge then turn left on Peralta or proceed straight forward; either way will place you ahead off the maze drop.
if other people thought of the same thing, take the same west grand exit and find another street parallel to west grand and proceed east. Either way you'll hit 580 |

I hate the media out here. They are stupid. I've said this from the moment I moved out here and I'll say it now.
They are making a HUGE deal out of the driver's past criminal history. A hit-and-run in 1974 (33 years ago) and some drug possesion charges.
Making a huge deal on how he shouldn't be driving a truck because of it, etc etc etc.
They are saying all this despite the fact that just hours earlier these same media people were talking about how no alcohol or drugs were found in his system.
What does any of his past criminal stuf have to do with what happened Saturday night? Especially the hit-and-run which happened 33 years ago when he was like 18!! People make mistakes sometimes.
His toxicology came back clean (I heard this on at least two news station -- so if this later becomes not the case, blame the news tations not me!)...so maybe he cleaned himself up. Haven't head any of the media mention that maybe he's learned from his past mistake.
They just always want to find a way to hate on anyone they can and will use topics that from what it appears are completely irrelevant to what happened Saturday night.
And now the state is going to be inspecting his workplace even though it's been given a satisfactory rating for some time. Why? Because of his criminal history? That's what the media makes it sound like at least.
They say he was probably speeding. Maybe he was, maybe he wasn't. The driver doesn't remember it appears. He told the taxi driver that he was driving and the next thing he knows his truck was on its side. Maybe he fell asleep? Maybe he got a flat tired and the truck veered? Who the hell knows. All I know is that his past criminal history appears to have NOTHING to do with it and it was completely unncessary for the media to make some of these reports.
If I want terrible reporting like that, I'll watch Nancy Grace. She's the worst! |

Ok, saying I'm leaving San Fran, going 80 East
Merge to the 580, it will be a problem. So just take the 880 and proceed from there?
I'm sure there's signs, right? |

| agree with Dave T all da way... this morning just go to the office read the news and the first thing i see is this whole mombo jumbo of his criminal records!!!! yea... totally irrelevant... dunno how can we trust the media, their always looking for somebody to blame... when something bad happened, someone has to take the fall!!! lets see what else can they think of? same way i feel bout how EDM and rave scene always gets the shaft from the media! |
