Benny Benassi @ Mansion 04/28/2007 Review

karen and i decided to go to this just cuz it was something different and to celebrate my finals being over. we heard benny's new cd and its actually quite decent. we knew going out there were gonna be a couple of "wtf" moments, but as long as we were expecting it we felt like we could handle it.

got there around midnight, went to the irish pub for a few drinks (still expensive, but not as expensive as mansion). saw there was a huge line outside of mansion... wtf, its not really a special night, but i guess it is saturday so what can you expect. had a couple of drinks and got inside mansion around 12:30.

ive noticed something about that place. they're all about the money, we all know that of course, but it seems like they just pocket all of it. because they sure as hell arent upgrading anything. i think the carpet is still the same when the i went the first time in 2004! the sound system is terrible, and when i was in the bathroom i overheard the guy in there telling someone not to flush cuz the toilet was broken. thats ing nasty. now none of these things really bothered me, but i just find it funny how space, even when they didnt need to always upgrade the sound system or switch things around in the club to keep it fresh they still did. it seems to me like mansion doesnt care because as long as the moneys coming in then who gives a right? very bad attitude for a club to have, and i hope they go under for it eventually.

so anyway, onto the actual music. the opener, chicco secci, we had seen him before at tiesto in jan, but this time he really wasnt that good. he dropped some female vocal remix of kansas - dusk in the wind, WTF?! and a couple of other very odd tracks. he just didnt seem to have much flow in his opening set.

onto benny benassi, he came on at 1:30 which was cool. he started off pretty good and got satisfaction and whos your daddy out of the way early. thank god for that. benny actually had the crowd moving pretty well and i really enjoyed the first hour. but for some reason the second hour he really dropped off. he played that "my milkshake is better than yours" crap and some mashup of plastic fanstastic and i will survive. wtf?! to be honest, he was really 50/50 for me. the first hour was awesome, he was rocking the mixer, rocking the cdjs, you could tell he is a very technically sound dj. but the second hour was just weird and misplaced. he lost the crowd a few times, and to his credit brought them back very quickly, but to me, something in the second hour of that set just wasnt right.

around 3:30 we left, not really cuz we were bored or not feeling benny, just a little bothered cuz some security guard stole our drinks. we were standing on the rail on the left side, put our drinks down right in front of us and before you know it they were gone. it wasnt too big of a deal, but just annoying that they would steal full drinks like that.

overall, id give the night a B-. it was nice to do something different, but unless i have a good reason to go back to mansion, i wont. if benny plays somewhere else, id go see him again.

i took some pics and vids, will be posted by the end of the day probably.

that Kansas cover was probably Gabriel & Dresden ft. Molly Bancroft - Dust in the Wind.

:wtf:

It's from the G&D album which was almost entirely , so what can you expect?

i agree with him dropping the energy in the second hour. i didnt know benny was that skilled on the mixer and cdjs. really impressed me. we left at like 3:30 also and i was really botherd by the fact it took 25 min to get your drinks and once you got them being charged 30 bucks for just 2 drinks

yep. i had some out-of-towners come up to me and ask me about the middle vip area and . they had no clue. i flat out told them what was up with mansions money grubbing, but it didnt seem to spoil their good time one bit.

but dispite the fact that he was very technically sound on decks, i got the feeling that sometimes he just doesnt know which track to drop next. and as a former wannabe dj myself, i found that to be the most important element.

but all in all despite the bad i still managed to have a good time.

mansion is the worst club ive ever been too, and i have gone to a good amount of clubs in plenty of cities

it also is a place i swore off like 2 yrs ago. anyhow glad u got o see benny, although he is good, when dj's play mansion they go popstar style. i mean its cool for that crowd, but definitely not for me.

He is an extremelly talented dj.You just have to see him in the right club because his sets vary from club to club.Hes really into trying to tap into his audience.By this i mean in some clubs he just goes nasty and in others he goes more commercial.

So what this means is that when Space goes down, the scene will suck because no one will spin the good in Miami anymore, sucks!!!!!You can already see how djs dont spin anything good in South Beach anymore,Crobar was the only place you could hear good sets back when and now it seems like they are affrai to spin new and hard music at Mansion. So all you will have to look forward to is Mansion.booo!!
