Elektrochemie is a 'they' not a she :p
They put out a lot of quality tracks, 'Calling You' if my favorite off their new EP...they sounded like they were trying too hard with 'Mucky Star'. Doesn't match the rest of their work imo. Anyway, tracks look fun...will be checking this out at work. |

okay, based on Julia's PM prodding, I'm here to give feedback. Couple of points about the actual recording and production:
1) It appears as though it is a planned recorded mix - IOW, it wasn't recorded live at a club as far as I can tell since the beginning is a clean start (nice beginning track BTW. Sets the mood right for what is to follow) BUT... and here is where it gets harder for me to enjoy the mix -
Its too distorted and there are no dynamics (no breathing of the sounds and all the levels on every sound is cranked - a sure sign of over compression and/or bad levels when recording the mix). It's clearly done in the digital realm (i.e. tracks downloaded from Beatport or something similar) and the recorded as been post processed to the point of overload. It has also been way too compressed losing the dynamics of the songs. The recorder/post mix person needs to pull back on the compression and/or levels. It makes it unlistenable for me because it isn't an enjoyable experience due to the distortion. Please note that I'm listening to this on my reference headphones and my monitors in my studio, so I can really hear the distortion and too crispy mids and highs... YMMV if you are listening to it in your car or on computer speakers...
All that being said, the track selection is cool, minimal, and funky w/ an eye towards synthetic pads/melodies (and even some intensity in the midsection) that gives the mix some movement. I think its good, if not a bit obvious of what is clearly popular now in this genre - but that's not a BAD thing, it just shows that the DJ is clued into what works for certain floors. I'm sure this would be a wicked live set for a crowd of dancers on a floor.
Would love to hear a version that was dialed down in the compression or levels area tho so it was a bit nicer to listen to.
02 and only my opinion(s),
werd.

WOWWW Rob, thank you so much for your detailed review!!! Your opinion really matters to me, so I respect the fact that you took your time to listen to it and post a review!
p.s., sorry I missed you on Friday night @ Compression! :( I just really needed a break from clubs. Hope to see ya soon! xoxo |

:) no worries Julia. Compression is like Dorritos, crunch all you want, I'm gonna make more. er, or something like that.
sorry on the audio perspective - I just think that has to be taken into consideration if it was a studio mix. My apologies if it was a recording from a live set from a club - sometimes you can't help the situation when its done out of the mixer straight.

| Just got through listening. It's an OK set overall, I liked it from the beginning to somewhere in the middle. Got a little too boring towards the end though, too samey. Not sure if it's because this style this getting canned left and right or what, but the mix didn't hold my attention. I'd say 7/10, not bad by any means but nothing special. |

Was about to post a review but after Robtronik's post i think all other posts would seem irrelevant :stongue: i think this set will definetely make a crowd move, but i agree with a previous post that the first half is better.
And to answer dj Woody's question: i have a feeling it's the return of the emo hair DJ that she posted about, but this time, he decided to go platinum blonde :wtf: I have to admit though he was good in the VIP room at vangaurd the night MANDY played.

I wasn't keeping it a "secret" exactly. I just wanted to get opinions about the set. Anyway, I was going to eventually post it, but The_Sounds beat me to it and posted who it was.
