that first pic gave me the heeby-jeebies

Lol, the ones here in Australia are pretty tame. I think :p

I found a waterdragon over the road in the park about a week ago, but I didn't have my camera to take a pic. It looks pretty much the same as this, but with less black and more grey:

It was pretty big, about 35cm (13") kinda spiky. They're pretty lethargic too, so you can pat them down the back and they sort of flatten themselves out. Pretty cool.

This is a male. Very distinctive burnt orange head.

He's a cool looking lizard, really unusual colouring on him! Congrats on becoming a godfather to a dozen baby lizards :p

I used to have a couple of these at my place ages ago

(Not taken by me)

Blue Tongue lizards, they'd eat all the snails, slugs and bugs around the place, I think cats got them though as I've not seen them for years :(

We get them here too! They have a mega powerful bite, so your kitty had wanna be careful :p Love their awesome tongues though.

But I have to admit I kind of freak out when I see them from the corner of my eye, as they look just like a snake.

Yeah, they do look like Joe Blake which isn't good for their survival around nervous girls with a rake, they also really hiss loudly... Kitty wouldn't bother them because he's more or less to the point where his geriatric ass can barely take on a mouse. Those water dragons get huge too! About 3ft long and all spines and claws.

Holy , 3 feet long? Never seen one that big. I saw a waterdragon a couple of years ago that was about, I don't know, maybe 2 feet?

What I don't get is why they're around here. There's no water for about a kilometer or so.

My grandmother was really scared of them as a little kid. My uncle got a small lizard and he snuck up behind her and put it down her dress. She was so scared that she couldn't move so she just stood there and screamed.

I think my uncle got a good beating for it.

how could your uncle put it down her dress when she was a kid?

:conf:

'my sister may be a pretty mean woman, but she's the only mama i got'??

Be careful handling them like that. Depending on what kind of lizard/skink they are, their tales may disconnect as a defense to something grabbing it like that.

Cool looking though :) Good find.

What do you mean? I have not touched them.
