Good luck, LIZ!
Some Advice on Boot Camp:
Don't be offended by anything the DI say or do. Follow their orders and don't be a smart a$$. They will break you down, but build you back up stronger both mentally and physically. I put on 20lbs of muscle in boot camp. You probably will too. |

I wish I could have made it to the party in Baytown. Good luck with recruit training. Here are a few tips from my time in recruit training.
Never get discouraged. Its a long process that will get old very quick. Just remember that you want to succeed, and take each day at a time.
You will get yelled at...and its never personal. Each and every task will be demonstrated by the Drill Instructor, pay attention and follow procedure. If you are chewed out for something, don't get down on yourself, whatever needs improvement, just keep a good attitude and do the best you can. It is possile to keep a low-profile and never get targetted as a -up, hehe. Halfway through the training cycle 2 of the drill instructors couldn't remember my name.
Best of luck, and when you come out after the training cycle...you will be amazed at how much stronger of a person you are. |

this is most of what I'd have to say as well, though my experience was a bit different than normal basic (service academies adapt things towards being officers, so it's like OCS indoctrination rather than enlisted basic).
I'd also add, don't psych yourself out. By that I mean, things can become a LOT worse in your head than they actually are in reality, so don't let that happen. Live entirely in the present, focus on the task at hand. You will be told everything you need to learn, everything you are expected to do. Become "invisible" if you're able, avoid at all costs standing out as a -up (but if you do up every now and again it's not the end of everything).
Good luck! |

All I'm worried about is my mom. She has a mindset that I'm leaving to war when its just basic training. She lost it. The reason she is reacting the way she was is because we lost our dad in 2004 n she feels that I'm leaving her. Its just me my bro n my mom in our house hold. A third of anything lost is a lot.
I'm cryin right now because of her I don't want her feeling like that... |
