word is that the someone *might* take over and move the shop, but either way, Brian is out come May 31st and it will not exist at it does now.

best of luck to ya Brian!

Doing fine financially (in the VINYL industry?) Doesnt sound realistic to me.

Regardless, best of luck to him :).

2TheBeat/Digital News-APR 30-Closing, Liquidation SALE, Relocation!

Good Day Folks,

In business, you find yourself making decisions that are best for the job that are not always what is best for you personally. Today, that changes for me and 2 The Beat. I have made the decision to close the store at the end of May so that I can pursue personal goals and challenges at home and abroad. I am working with potential investors who have a goal of moving the shop and re-opening in August 2007. Watch www.2thebeat.com for the latest updates on that situation.

What this means to you is that all in-store purchases are now 25% off. That includes any items we sell in the store (except ticket sales). CDs, Gear (not including a tiny shipment expected Friday), Records, Bags are all on sale now. Used records are now just $1 (due to their low price, they are to be purchased as is and are not permitted on the listening stations). Our bins are loaded with fantastic tracks that have not found good homes yet, and with the sale on, hopefully that will change. I will now be sending out the weekly newsletter on Mondays with any updates to the sale and all things 2 The Beat.

2 The Beat Digital will still be in operation at the same time, though expect a great deal more music and website improvements after the potential transfer.

There are a great many people to thank for their support of 2 The Beat. I would like to list off everyone individually, but I will undoubtably forget someone as there have been many who have made my mission possible. Without doubt the most important person who has helped the shop thrive and survive until now is you! The person who has read the mail out each week. The person who has ordered records or mp3s from 2 The Beat. The person who comes into the shop and spends their hard earned money. The person who used us for a ticket outlet (even the clueless people who call for Ferry Cornstein tickets). My goal when I opened the shop was to make a place that anybody can feel comfortable shopping, where everyone can be a superstar dj. I am not sure that the shop was perfect all the time, but I can feel confident that there were a lot of folks that enjoyed our atmosphere. You gave me the means to live out a dream of being involved in music and I can not express the gratitude I have for the opportunity you have granted me. Thank you all for your support. I am especially grateful to have made many great friends who will remain a part of my life as the store drifts farther into the past.

I have also had a motley crew of of employees who have been the front line on sorting you out. Ken, Monika, Suzie, Justin, Kevin, Dan, James (Mr. Brown), James (Mr. Tyco), Adam, Carlo, Matt, Lee, AJ, Jen Harisson (the best employee I never had), Tim, Chris, Christian, Scott Free, Jelo (mascot), Brad S4, Paul, Jen S, Pablo, Nathan, KF , and our 2 Co-Op Students David and Marshall have all be invaluable assets and I would like to thank you all for your effort.

I would like to thank all of our distributors, but several of them have a big role in me wanting to move on. The record industry could be a lot better off if the people running vinyl distribution did not have such a problem with their heads being tucked so far inside their rectums. There were exceptions and those distros will still be behind future incarnations of the record shop, while the others will likely close and take some good stores with them.

Thank you to the Stay Up Forever Collective for providing much of the inspiration for 2 The Beat. I would never have wanted to open the shop were it not for your music and the global atmosphere that comes with it.

Many promoters have been incredibly supportive of 2 The Beat over the years as well. Three that stand out are people that have worked with us to make several parties happen. First, Activate has been with us since the beginning and will be there for my end. The next Beats Ahoy on May 27 will be the Official 2 The Beat Finale party. It is a fitting end to be with the crew that always brings out a lot of our customers/friends. Jose @ The Guvernment helped me make some silly ideas I had into parties at System Soundbar and the Guvernment. Getting to hear music I liked on great systems and to be able to share that with other folks who think the same was fantastic and I greatly appreciate that opportunity. Finally, A.D/D has helped us to mark some milestones. Being able to be involved with their Switch party has been my highlight of 2007 (because I wanted to hear Switch and he was everything I hoped for). Thank you Mario and Eva for letting me horn in.

Thank you to all of the artists that have made great music!

Finally, the last thank you I have to make is to my partner in crime fighting. Without M, 2 The Beat would not have made it past a month in business. On dark days, it was always her that found a way to make it bright. I love you.

Now, we need to liquidate all of our stock. So please take advantage of the 25% off sale (and $1 used records!). Watch the site or the newsletter in your inbox for sale updates next Monday. Please share the news of our sale with your blog, myspace, purerave, facebook or whatever other social site you use. If you can show your support for us one last time please just help spread the word of our sale and check it out in the shop.

With my sincere thanks,

Brian Bobroff

Best of Luck to Brian and all the boys/gals that work there. I'm really gonna miss going there for my lunch breaks and listening to tracks. Hands down the best Techno shop in the city, REAAAAAAAALLLY going to miss that.

The prophecy is fulfilling.

Man for the past two years, that place has become another home away from home.(i have several lol)

Even though im not a vinylist, I enjoyed the chit chats with all the staff, and esp that now I work right by there, I always pass by there on my lunches. I even passed out there once after a thurs night at Hotel, right on the comfy beanbag at the bag, during my lunch hour.

The staff were great, always friendly and wanted to get high, as they were.

...but most of all I'm gonna miss Max the dog. He was like Triumph but not that snarky.

Reading this reminds me of reading the goodbye letter when System was closing. It's remarkable, in that circumstance and in this one now, I have never met the person writing the letter, never the less the emotion that is displayed through the writing makes me feel like I do.

Everywhere needs more people like this, so passionate about music, to contribute to their community.

Sad to see you go, and all the best.
