Which monitors for bedroom DJ?

My mate is getting some 800mk2's and he's already got my old Numark DMX06 mixer. And now he is looking into getting an amp and passive monitors or just some active monitors.
He has come across these two and would like some advice on whether they are any good or not:

Also, how would he go about connecting active monitors to his Numark mixer as the mixer doesn't have any 1/4" or XLR outputs?
And,if the above two monitors aren't that good, which ones would you recommend instead?

Iv had a listen to the alesis monitors and they are nice but in that similar price range krk rokits are my favourites.
Its really a matter of opinion though.
As for inputs on the KRKs:
XLR (3-pin), RCA & 1/4" TRS - 10k Ohm. |

How do I know if the monitors I'm looking at are suitable for his DXM06 Mixer? Does it matter if they are Active? |

Active just means that you connect the mixer straight to the speakers and that is it. So the amplifier is built into the speakers...
Where passive speakers need an external amplifier. |

Yeah I understood that, what I meant was - if he was to buy Active speakers does it matter what the spec is?
Cause I know that if you were to buy passive speakers then he would have to make sure that they are suitable for his amp. |

I am not sure what you mean by spec?
But the speakers will be fine with any mixer.
Probably just as long as the mixer has a master volume knob. |

By spec I mean maximun handling power, frequency range, oHms etc. When buying speakers for an amp you need to make sure that they are suitable for that amp or you could damage them. |

I get what your saying about matching speakers to an amp.
But since the amp is built in with the speakers theirs no worry of that.
The only specifications you need to worry about when matching a mixer to active speakers is the connectors. Then again, their is always adaptors. |

Thanks for the replies guys, but at the moment it seems that people are recommending whatever monitor they have at home.
For a budget of £200 (maybe a little higher) is there a brand/model of active monitors that's regarded as the best in that price range.
For example, if people are after CDJ's the obvious answer is Pioneer and if someone is after turntables the obvious answer is Technics.

Monitors arn't really the same in that respect.
They all have a slightly different sound. The krks are apparently very bass heavy, which some people like, whearas others are more natural and display the sound exactly how it is.
Just go to a showroom and listen to them all, forget brands, price (within reason) and pick the ones you/ your mate likes.
At the end of the day the random reccomendingn "x" brand to you doesn't have to listen to them in your house everyday. You do, so make the choice yourself
