| quote: | U.S. audience targeted
The content is typically developed abroad, but it is being placed on U.S. servers and is targeting domestic audiences, Cilluffo said.
Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, top Republican on the Senate Homeland Security Committee, said terrorists also "can consult Web sites to learn techniques for shooting down helicopters, watch videos of hostage beheadings, read letters left by suicide bombers or listen to messages from militant leaders."
The report says national leaders need to develop a compelling "counter-narrative" that the "West is not engaged in a battle against Islam," hire more intelligence officers to infiltrate chat rooms and foster better relations with Muslims.
For now, the report says, "a nation that gave rise to Silicon Valley, Hollywood and Madison Avenue" has been "outplayed in the realm of ideas, effectively communicated in the new media."

Islam is just a tool for middle east militant groups , something that unites them and gives them discipline but just because someone is islamic doesn't give them instant credibility or respect, it's more like way of life and it's very fluid . But the main tool that al qaida and other groups talk, fear and exploit is foreign aggression and sense of low esteem and powerlessness that comes from the middle east with the history of invasions, cultural backwardness, isolation etc... This doesn't change so much if every american occupation soldier adopted a muslim name, arabs are very cunning and can see when someone is trying to pull over them, they are very untrustworthy .
It's a paradox but it's similar thing with "democracy" which has become a big tool for US foreign policy, its expansion and military action. Besides the point that democracy is not the pinnacle of human existence, it's a mere rule by majority which can sometimes stiffle freedom and advancement especially in an undeveloped land and where freedom with non intrusive government is far more worthy achievement , it is not possible and in deed hypocritical to import or export freedom especially with military actions where it has to be gradually created .
So with that in mind , we can surmise that military actions especially as brutal and unjust as those by US/UK recently and superpowers in general do not lead to peace, democracy and let alone freedom and why all the empires are bound for failure as all people want freedom .
And where does this leave US in its current imperial approach toward balkans, middle east and elsewhere. Well , they have adopted a pro islamic by making sure everyone knows they are pro islam and of course democracy and yet all the places they have occupied and put subservient/puppet or criminal governments , it has become a breeding ground for corruption, ethnic cleansing, terrorism and certainly far from free . Meanwhile , they keep on pushing democracy and islam as the wrong answer to the question why they hate us? Just think if a number of american enemies promised to be more democratic, to learn more about it or promote , would they be let alone ? Certainly not as I can think of few recent cases who paid with their lives for it |
