MP3 Mix Download - 192kps or 320kps? (pg. 3)

| Are lower bit-rate MP3's more suseptiple (sp?) to distortion? Or is that completely on how the track was mastered and how much gain is naturally or unnaturally added to a track? |

you know the standards are really low when 320kbps is considered as too much . 80min/320kbps=192MB. What would you consider blu ray tracks which can reach 18Mbps?
Anyway you should know that mp3 is lossy and any time you lower bitrate or even do any kind of change you lose some sounds and quality |

mp3 is lossy and any change you make to it and lower the bit rate, it distorts the sounds and some sounds are completelly removed |

What happens is lower bit-rates offer more compression to an already mastered track with the approriate compression settings.
So, you add more compression which in turn, lose dynamics. Some may call it distortion because it tends to limit the output and have everything sustained to a certain level at some degree.
I like high dynamic music. And, when you start to compare the dynamics among the various rate settings in MP3s, it becomes very clear what the lower bit rate is doing. |

And here I am (Not this forum per say) looking like the nut
wanting to only use Wave files and won't settle for less than 320 kbps when mixing music on my computer. ;) |

sure, some people can't hear the difference between 192 and 320, but do it as a courtesy for the people who can! |

| Go for both 320kbps and 192 to appease everybody. I don't really like to listen 192 anymore, but for the typically listener you could easily get away with it. |

i think everyone should start releasing their mixes on blu ray format now! it's the best quality and that's what's most important when "releasing" bedroom dj mixes! people who don't have the bandwidth or the space can just go themselves! what a great idea! :eyespop: |

it's not an issue , relax or just get broadband and a bigger hard disk. He can post anything he likes and I can say that 320k is decent but 192k is not good enough and I know I always delete 192k mp3 files since it sounds so garbled |

i have broadband and a bigger hard disk! ;) but the world doesn't work very well if everyone would just think about themselves. ;) i'd say that most people can't hear any difference between a 192kbps and a 320kbps dj mix and it certainly isn't as relevant in dj mixes as it is on singles IMO. sure, you can put your mixes up in blu ray format, but it doesn't make any sense at all.
if you recorded speeches and put those up for download for people. for students for example, so they could hear what the professor had said or something. would you record those in blu ray format too and put them up in blu ray format so everyone would get the best possible quality? i think not, as speech can still sound pretty good even as a rather low bitrate mp3, so there would be no real advantage over putting it up in some really high quality format, but there'd be a lot of disadvantages. the case here is pretty similar IMO, just not nearly as extreme. ;) |
