I used to promote for China Club back in the day but the appeal of China has kind of died as a result of all the new upscale clubs popping up monthly like light, spa, float, and loads more. I actually switched over for a year or 2 and was doign guestlists at exit, world, and ohm but i cant stand those clubs or the crowds that they bring anymore. So now ive moved on to float and maybe thursdays or fridays at Spa, but im not sure yet since Float thursdays are still relatively new. :)

China club is good on mondays. Older crowd.
I've been to light on a thursday, pretty chill. Didn't really like Spa on thursday, Tuesdays are good. Ohm used to be good like 2 yrs ago. Haven't been to World. I heard its mad young & its the Cheesy Sound Factory crowd.
I could be drinkin free liquor in VIP w/ Brad Pitt & not have a good time if the muzix blows. The only place I know I'm guaranteed to have a SICK time is Twilo. The phazon system *drool*. |

| Yeah, i still hit twilo when i like the dj thats coming but im not big into sweating and dancing my ass off for hours. I was a twilo head when i was like 14-18, but have backed off since moving back to NYC in May and I have basically just lounged it up especially in the summers around union sq. and lemon bar :) |

Ok well, i'm not a promoter but i have held some cool trance parties in the city, a good friend of mince used to have an apartment on 50th bet 2nd and 3rd,(1 block from 151) it was on the first floor and it had a backyard! it was a split level duplex and last year we held two awesome parties with great music and i used projectors to do graphics to the music and play the matrix, it was great we had like 150 people show and we had 4 kegs, not crappy budweiser....(magik hat, sieraa nevada) a bar downstairs with liquor and a couple cases of wine. A friend and i did all the sound and lighting and it last till like 4 in the morning( god the diplomats must have loved that!). Now my friend who has some spare cash wants to start a night at china club, i'm his music consultant and we're not too sure if we want the china club crowd...we're looking for more of an A list type of crowd to start, anyway..if u would like to get involved or have suggestions....feel free..

There are so many clubs that are in desperate need of a thursday night thats its actually one of the worst nights around. Cheetah had a good thursday night but they moved it to saci and it has been dead ever since. If you are looking for an a-list crowd and you can bring alot of people yourself you shouldnt have a problem and you wouldnt even need a financial interest. It doesnt cost us anything to do float and we only do the door till 12:30 and all our friends are comped or reduced and they give us a free table upstairs as well. The other places i have worked with have never done that, plus they give a percentage of the door, so if you are interested in thursdays we can talk about it and maybe try to coordinate something :)

Redeye the reason for a financial backer is simple, if we're starting from scratch...esp at china we need quality dj's, i'm not trying to start with some played out HH BS. I'm an IT manager not a promoter so i'm not interested in the recruitment scene, i am good at setup and music selection and i know how to do right, thats why i'm taking my time, as far as my partner is concerned, he asked me to help him so I am...

Oh and i'm a lounge head to0...i used to hit lemon all the time in fact we were very good friends with the owner, veruka used to be good, but i heard halo is supposed to be really good although i've never been there, but i totally agree NY is all about lounging it!

I completely agree on your situation. I work full time commuting between New Jersey, NYC, and philly weekly, but my roommates asked me to help out in getting the places going since i used to do it a long time ago. I also go because my friends all go there, but i know your situation. I have started nights from scratch in Boston and it is really difficult getting through all the political red tape if you are an unknown. The club owners are there for the bottom line and if you dont bring it, not only will you be out on the street but you wont see a cent. So if i can help answer any questions about starting your own night let me know and maybe we can get the lounge thing going. I have been hitting Venue recently, especially the back bed room, really relaxing, so let me know whats up :)

Im a financial Advisor by day, i work on 51st but spend most of my time on amtrak or the JFK Shuttle :) Venue is a phat lounge on columbus between 84th and 85th. Im not big on any places above the 50's but venue is an exception. (Potion turned me off) I try to hit lounges as frequently as possible and there are too many good ones to list, but right now venue is one of my fav's as well as light, twirl, halo is ok, lot 61, hudson bar, wet bar, whiskey blue, sway, and of course lemon in the summer. There are several others that i have been to, but so many along the way that i cant keep up with the names anymore. :)

| Ah yes whiskey blue... as i said my good friend had a duplex on 50th a couple blocks from there, been to a couple that u have mentioned, and i didn't like potion lounge either, lemon is definitely cool and the food ain't bad either, if u go out to eat a lot I highly recommend blue ribbon on thomson.... |

Oh, see now you've done it, you've brought up food :) Thats what really does it for me in the city. There are so many restaurants that it makes my head hurt. ONe that i went to last week that a friend of mine just opened is number 9. I dont have an exact address because it just opened and he drove so i dont know the exact location except that its down near 9th and 10th. Its really good food. Of course if you want that restaurant/lounge combo, i agree lemon is good, but so is Lot 61 and Metronome. Lot 61 is a little overpriced, but very nice, and Metronome is pretty average but has some decent food. :)
