The 07 budget looks sweet (your thoughts?), only 1 big gripe I have here:
$2bil for the Environment's water supply crisis is a lot of money, but it really just doesn't seem like enough to me. I don't really get this, as far as I know were one of the only countries with a surplus but we're skimping on the environment when it's a huge issue we've got at the moment.
I really don't get it, can anyone shed some light on this subject for me?
EDIT - Also I don't think the higher bracket really need the extra tax cuts, since they can afford accountants good enough to get em out of half of their taxes already. They don't need the governments help to cut their taxes. |

yep.
kerry packer used to pay about 10 bux tax a year lol!
but
i watched question time last night (yes its better than bigbro uplate)
and the labour party just put out a booklet outlining future policies - 235 pages - and they had one sentence in the whole thing outllining drought relief options.
1 line.
so in summation....
they're all farked |

its impossible to give tax cuts to the lower brackets without including said cuts into those at the top. |

Agree with you about everything. However I'm thinking that fancy accountant thing is an urban myth and the reduction in taxes is minimal.
Maybe I'm wrong... anyone know anything about the subject? |

it's truth man. for example once you set up pty ltd companies and investment properties to send your money through,, you end up actually getting paid and owning not much at all but CONTROLling the pty ltd's etc where all the cash is.. so personally you don't actually pay much in taxes.. it's just an example of the way they set things up to avoid taxes.
no financially intelligent rich man or woman actually pays 50% tax (the 130k+ tax bracket) |

yeah the budget is okay.. But... The reason they have had such a big surplus, is due to cutting back on expenses that have made our lives harder, which has given them a massive surplus in which to woo voters for the upcoming election. For example, the 500 dollar one off payment to the elderly. Yes 500 dollars to somebody in a poor financial position is a huge benefit, but are they thinking how much they will lose in the long run? Are they thinking how much money they will lose when Howard will probably try and get rid of medicare, make it harder to get a pension, having poor work conditions?
Are we going to give up so easily on the things are ancestors fought so hard to achieve? (the 40 hr week for example..) These people died for these things...
Dont be fooled by this budget, it is merely a bribe. Think about the future.:)
