So, this is what I'm buying:
2 * Numark TT 500
1 * NUMARK DXM 06
2 * All white slipmatt (no special brand, they're just cheap, will buy other ones later)
This is 829,22 Euros.
(+ 4 vinyls to start of with)
I also want some headphones of course, in the 100 eur price-range (rougly 100 dollars). What can I buy and expect to like a lot?
This is my first set of gear, I have been mixing in Traktor DJ Studio for 4 or so years, and I want to get vinyl.
Do I need anything else?
I will buy the gear from http://www.thomann.de, does anyone have any experience with them? I know a guy who have and he recommend them, but I want some other opinions (cause they ARE cheap). |

meh, 800 bucks is a little steep. i'm not sure about what the euro/usd conversion is though. you could most likely get a used pair of techs for around $500 like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/Technics-1200-M...1QQcmdZViewItem and buy a much nicer mixer for 400 bucks or so. i'd look around before buying numark's. i own a pair of tt200's and they don't even compare to techs. i found a numark dxm06 for http://cgi.ebay.com/Numark-DXM06-DJ...1QQcmdZViewItem $102.50 just from a quick search. you're getting ripped off dude.
the mixer also has one of the worst eq setups i've ever seen before.. i dunno.
...
to answer your question, i own a pair of technics rpdh-1200's, i got them new for a little less than $100, solid headphones. you can't go wrong with sony MDR-7506's either. you'll probably need a pair of cartridges/styli, i got a pair of ortofon concorde's for about $75, ortofon makes solid carts, shure whitelabels are good. search the board a little bit dude.
HOWEVER, imho since you've been mixing with traktor for so long, i think you'd be better off buying CD decks. using traktor is pretty much like using CDJs.. and they use cheaper media. that, and all of your mp3's that you've been using with traktor can still be used to play on CDJs, otherwise you'll have to buy some new wax. expensive. you can't go wrong with denon dns1000's, pioneer cdj200's, or stanton c.314's for a beginner setup.
damn, someone should sticky my post :toocool: :p |

829.22 EUR = 1,129.68 USD

and what you don't realize here is that gear is much much more expensive in europe than in america. sure he could order the stuff from america, but then he'd have to get transformers to transform the electric current to the 230V us europeans use. ;)
he'd also have to worry about paying customs and VAT for his gear. if he orders it from the EU he doesn't have to pay taxes or customs as they're already paid in where he ordered them from and that's the way it works within EU. if he orders from outside EU he'll have to pay taxes and customs. in finland for example i'd have to pay 10% customs charge and on top of that 22% VAT of the whole sum including the price of the gear, shipping and the customs charge.
so no i don't suggest stickying your post as you're really giving bad advice here. but i also do agree with you that he should rather get cd players than TTs at this point.
and thomann is reliable, but there are some cheaper places for some gear at least (within EU that is).
and as for the headphones the only ones i can recommend are the sony mdr-7506. they're 144€ (196.079 USD) at thomann though (for the swedes) so that is a bit over your budget.
oh and 100€ isn't roughly 100$. 100.00 EUR = 136.185 USD ;) |

I have found some used pair of Technics for the same price as the two Numarks + cartridges. Will probably go for those instead, as they are close to me in Sweden. Is this a good idea?
In the case that the technics are still available I will go for another mixer probably, and I won't buy it in Thomann, I'll probably try and get hold of a used mixer as well.
I do want vinyl. It's cooler, and it has a better touch to it imo. I reckon a decent track selection is 40 vinyls (this is pushing it I know). Also, there are lot better tracks on vinyl. I will start buying 10 tracks a month for the upcomming months to get that juice going. Is this a bad idea? As I said, I do want vinyls. My plan is to get 2 vinyls, two CDJs and a 4-channel mixer at the end, but I want to start with vinyls. |

the sticky thing i mentioned was a joke. hence the smileys. anyways gear must be extremely expensive if he's paying over a grand for mid-range numark equipment. as for headphones buy them from america then. i swear you can find them for less than $100. i'm gonna go out on a limb and assume that the VAT + the customs charge can't make a $100 pair of headphones into $200, but meh, i could be wrong i guess.
@putboy (eq setup question): well actually i'm mistaken, i thought the EQs were set-up in a triangular formation for some reason. i see now they're horizontally placed.. still kinda weird, but no biggie i guess. |

Here's what I probably will settle for:
