caffeine > smoking for your health.
If you are just going to replace one thing with another I would stick with coffee. Plus studies say that one cup a day is actually good for you. I dont recall a single study that refers to cigs in the same fashion.

well actually nicotine increases your short term memory.
but your right caffine >>>>>> smoking for your health :p
I don't know why you would quit caffeine and start smoking all in an effort to better your health in the long term (if anything caffiene makes me want a cigarette, not the other way around). Nor do i really see the point in trying to be completly stimulant free (when i first saw the title of this thread i thought it was about cocaine or speed or some other amphetamine :p that is BAD for your health) Caffeine really isn't that bad for you at all. Especially in moderation.
But whatever. The best way to stop drinking coffee is to make sure you get alot of sleep and get on a regular sleeping schedule. If you do, you will feel great during your day and won't need that cup of joe to perk you up. |

Whatever dude, drink coffee, it won't kill you; however, if it's starbucks, that will kill your wallet.
Like everyone else said, smoking to quit drinking coffee is just stupid.

i didn't start smoking to quit drinking coffee. I quit drinking coffee first. About a week later my coworker was going for a cigarette and I joined him, as I occasionally do. Then I joined him again two days later. Then again ... till I was going down every day ... and then bought my own pack.
Part of the reason I'm trying to quit is that I actually crash when the caffeine wears off. It's not a terrible, but still a noticeable come down. I hate the cycles of caffeine highs (which are also quite noticeable for me) followed by lows.
Yesterday I finished the pack of cigarettes. Hopefully it lasts.
not that big a deal, just thought i'd share. I don't believe in taking stimulants/drugs/substances because you need to (taking coffee to wake you up) but only because you want to (taking coffee to enjoy the buzz). |

ah yeah. i've been noticing my caffeine crashes a little more recently. i get a little edgy and more tense after teh caffeine wears off. it normally happens though because I get little sleep and don't eat much in the morning (normally just a granola bar) and then I have a large cup of coffee. I feel my crash right before lunch time, tehn I have lunch and I feel a lot better after that.
but yeah don't start smoking. smokings bad mmmmkay?
it is nice going out to have a smoke with a person though. i like that whole social aspect to smoking.
I think my comedown from coffee is also exacerbated because I smoke occasionally too. I normally smoke when I drink which is on the weekends or the occasional weeknights. Mondays and tuesdays I feel the caffiene comedowns the most (and i occasionally have a strong urge for a cig during the come down). |

Dude I get headaches is I dont have a cup in the AM! I started drinking it a lot more in grad school, and for me it helps me get thru the day. Caffeine lasts a while for me, so I dont really crash and I keep the energy for a while.
But it def makes me too hyper when I just get done drinking it. Sometimes, tho, I am crazzzzy if I drink a large cup: example: I was just talking to kala at 100 miles per hour and could barely manage to slow down. LOFL :haha: :haha: :haha: :haha: I am soo adult ADHD and a half. :haha: :haha: :haha: :haha: |

cigarettes are bad.
i'm fiending for one right now. i can only imagine what regular smokers go through. that's why i think quitting cold turkey might be better because you don't think about your next one and you don't wait for it.
also don't know why i'm so sleepy today. time for another cup of green tea. btw caffeine in 4 cups of green tea = 1 cup of coffee.
reminds me of a friend i had in college who went on the slimfast diet. he figured that if 1 slimfast instead of a meal makes you lose weight, he could speed up the process by drinking 8 of them a day. doesn't work that way. |

:haha:
I love my iced coffee :) but I only drink about 1 a week and never feel like I NEED it, I CRAVE it. And when I smoked a few cigarettes every day during a whole month abroad, the day I got back home, I craved no cigarettes and never smoked.
Has there been any research done on addictive personalities vs. non-addictive... I feel like you and I are two extremes on this stuff! :p |
