You're following the typical american thing, highlighted on these very boards.

let's take some people, they can remain nameless, we'll call them BOOMDOT, Lobba Bou, Btom-A etc.

2003

OMG ARMIN PVD AS THE RUSH COMES OMG I DIEEEE

2004

OMG MARKUS. I'M PROGRESSING NOW.

2005

ARMIN SUCKS. NOW I'M LISTENING TO (INSERT COOLER GENRE)

2006

MNML4LFE. YEAH I'M COOL. ELECTRO RULES. MINIMAL THIS, ELECTRO THAT, HOUSE FOR LIFE.

It's very atypical and basically is down to the fact that many people can't be seen to be liking something for a long period of time. regardless of if it's better or worse now, they just move on with trends. Trance swept america after it exhausted europe.

Wouldn't have put it in your words but looks like ive followed the pattern you're being funny about. Ah well, i'll live at least. To be honest the pattern is logical is your being exposed to certain dj's at particualr time periods, cant blame it all on a bandwagon.

yeh you really cant blame it on bandwagons, its mostly lack of personality, integrity and self respect than anything else. besides there is nothing wrong with following fashion to make yourself look cooler, right?

I guess it probably fits for some younger people from our way too, but overall that's the way a lot of people have gone. problem is, some of them then resort to having to badmouth trance when they have probably not heard much for a long time. Yeah a lot of it is , but there's quality stuff out there in certain places :)

Atypical is the exact antonym of what you're actually looking for- namely "prototypical".

Personality, integrity and self respect, you what? They have nothing to do with it. I'll like what music I like, i could not care what people think of me because of that. Its not as if i pigeon-hole myself to these 'genres', just believe theres a lot of solid productions around here. It just seems that round here its 'cooler' to be into psytrance etc as to what some others have drifted to.

Well im not one to go and slag trance off, i would not know the state of play on it, i generally dont have the time to investigate either due to work, life etc, maybe thats stopping me branching out but not much I can do there. Sure its the same for others however.

yeh that the excuse 9999999 other people like you use. Its easy to say (insert style of edm) rocks when you have that many people to back you up. you like what you like...ok but dont you think its coincidence to only like something after 9999999 like it too in an open level. im not here to say what to like and not to like im just against treating music as a fashion sinse i believe it is something much deeper.
RapidFire
ive never listened to just one genre exclusively. that kinda defeats the purpose of music for me. ive also never listened to music from a certain time only. i tend to preffer most trance from the 90s but a bomb track is a bomb track regardless of genre/time period.
