oxys are bad and makes your face itch, and people on it are worse than ppl on benzo's etc...

ODing from oxy alone is actually pretty rare. most deaths occur when people combine oxy with other depressants like alcohol or benzos.

Death is also often not caused by overdose, but rather by asfixiating on one's one vomit/tongue/whatever.

i dunno if you guys eat it or what but the kids up here suck the time release off then crush it up and smoke it

the time release is actually binders in the pill, not the coating on the outside of it.

I have a friend that has done OC's for a few years. He quit about a month ago, but all of his friends/coworkers are still into them. Lately, he's been really distant (blowing off plans, bad attitude). Sometimes he even goes on runs for his friends, which to me, is pretty retarded. If I had a friend that was a recovering alcoholic, it's not like I would send her out to get me beer.

I have no idea what it's like to be on Oxy's, and can seldom tell when people around me are on them.

Does anyone here have any first hand knowledge of dealing with people like my friend? Are Oxy's easy to get back into once you quit? What are some withdrawal signs? I'm starting to think that maybe he didn't even quit in the first place, and that his withdrawal may have been an act.

Thanks.

First off, you most certainly can OD from oxycontin alone, even when used properly. This does not happen often because someone who has never used opiates is not usually gonna crush up an OC80 and take it all at once, but there are idiots in the world and people have done it before. And yes you can die from an OD using it properly without defeating the time release. If an opiate virgin takes two OC80s and swallows them whole they are gonna get hit with 80mg of oxycodone right off, probably enough to kill them. This is exactly the reason why the OC160s are in very limited use, even taking that pill properly has the potential to kill someone without an opiate tolerance.

About your friend, I'm going to assume that since you say he has been using for a few years he had a decent regular habit up since its pretty rare and would require some extreme willpower to use for that long and still just be chipping. In a few years time of regular use you can easily work up to 200-300mg a day habit or more. If you know for a fact he only used occasionally let me know because that changes some of what I have to say.

As far as him quitting, I doubt it. I don't personally know anyone who was using at that level and just quit without going to a rehab/detox facility that can help with withdrawals. I do, however, personally know someone who told a girl he wanted to date that he had quit and then did everything he could to hide his use from her, which he was able to do for a while.

Really, there is no way you could quit cold turkey and go to work and once you have a daily habit like that. He would have been so dope sick for at least a week that it would take the willpower of god to not pick up the phone and call his dealer. Imagine the worst case of flu you have ever had and multiply it by 2, but unlike the flu in the back of your mind you know you can fix your body and be rid of the sickness in 5 minutes if you just take a pill.

I personally know people who have tried to taper down, but were not really that successful. They were able to cut back to small doses in time but just ended up using percs or oxyirs to the tune of 50-60mg a day and eventually just said it and went back on OC or switched to heroin.

And I also don't know of anyone who was successful in getting off of it while they were still hanging around their friends who use. The fact that he is going on runs with his friends is a major red flag. I'll tell you this, if I beat an oxy habit and went through the hell of withdrawals I would not put myself in a position where it would be so easy to use again. that.

any opiate is just one little step away from heroin..
ive tried oxy's and cosylan (hardcore morphine cough syrup ftw :P), but thats as hardcore as i have ever gone.. id choose Alprazolam, benzo- and regular diazepam or roofies any day over that .. if it hadnt been for the fact that im sober now.. (yay 9th day celebration woot woot :P)

anyways, screw that guy, he is most likely lying to you now, and if he starts that early lying just imagine how easy he could act surprised when 50 bucks is lacking from your wallet or something..

yea i snorted one when i was 18 and almost ended up in the ER. ughh..

most deaths with oxycontin are due to alcohol being brought in the mix...as little as a few sips combined with the meds can cause you to seize. (some of you may have drank on it before, but it depends on factors like metabolism...ect ect)
viagra is way cooler and safe
