Well, that's not the problem. The problem is that after hour power is the biggest buzz kill that ever happened to Avalon. lol

So true! Worst afterhours EVER. I'd rather stab myself in the eyeball with a pitch fork than go there.

Simple solution for those bitching about AHP = DON'T GO or just leave at the time you'd be leaving if there was no AHP. :tongue2

i agree. i'm not a big fan of it but they do great business there with its crowd of regulars. i think the last time i went specifically to AHP was around 6 years ago to see Mauro Picotto the same night Cox was at Spundae and Tiesto at Giant.

I wasn't there the night Mauro Picotto played @ AHP, but I heard it was uningbelievable. That was back then, when AHP was good.

But now, it's a ing circus act. I don't think they have AHP every weekend (thank the lord), but whenever they do, it's SUCH A BUZZ KILL.

For example, about a year ago, James Holden was playing @ Avalon. Everyone was enjoying his set, next thing u know, they put down these curtains on the main stage for like 10 minutes. When they finally opened the curtains, James Holden was gone, and they had this circus act going on with transvestite dancers and TERRIBLE music (probably Steve Crapo or TJ Hoban "DTJ"). This was around 3:30am approximately. Not only that, but the crowd was a bunch of juice heads walking around without shirts, and women who looked like men, and even more noticable washing machines than before.

This happened ALL the time... they would kick off the main DJ to put on their circus act. Why people actually get to Avalon at 3am to go to AHP and miss the main DJ? I have no idea.

Thank god Giant moved to Vangaurd, which reduces the chance of AHP ruining the end of the main DJ's set.

I've only been going to Avalon now if the DJ is worth it (ie Mr. C & Booka Shade... Droog/Droid & Josh Wink), and luckily, they haven't been AHP nights.

:haha: i went to afterhour power once, it was cleverly marketed as 'ahp w/ sander k'. i paid $100, yes 100, to get in and experienced the most horrid music production i've ever beared witness to in my life. the absolute rock-bottom of dj'ing, crowd, vibe, etc. i only got 1 hour of sander k and agonized through 2-3 hours of mark taberner and dtj playing such off-the-wall crap that i just sat up in the bleachers, annoyed, waiting to leave. the crowd was so cracked out goin nuts to amateur night it made me feel even dumber for being there. it sounds like things haven't changed, but even if they have, $35 for an afterhours club featuring nobodies is hilarious... when steve lawler did afterhours here, it's like $10-15 and the venue stays open all day from 6am sunday to 2am monday.

Dude, I remember that night too! Sander was supposed to play like a 6 hour set or something, but it got cut shirt, due to AHP's circus act!!!!
