Tutorial: How to print cd's?

In this tutorial i’m going to explain you how to print on a printable cd. Please make note that this is not a photoshop tutorial.

What do you need?
Printable cd: I advise you to use full printable cd’s
A Color protection spray: to protect the ink from your sweaty hands ;-)
A printer that can print on cd: I use a Canon Pixma 5300, but I think Epson has also got printers who are able to print on cd’s.

You decide which information you want on your cd. I put following info on my cd.
*Label (in fact the logo)
*Catalog nr
*Track (duh)
*Artist (duh)
*which mix (duh)
*Track length
*BPM
*Key

I use 8 colors to describe the general genre of the track. I know it’s not always that correct, but it gives me a general id.
In this tutorial I’m going to burn and print the cd for the track ‘The migrants – I tought that’ in the Boris Dlugosch Remix (try to pronounce that :p). It’s a massive elektro-house track. Hell yeah I know I’m on tranceaddict =)

I use adobe photoshop, but I you can also use photoshop elements. You can download my sample file here ==> [[ LINK REMOVED ]]

Now you just have to edit all the information. If the label isn’t in the label map, you probably can find the label logo on discogs.

Once you’ve edited all the information you can start printing the cd! Go to file > print
Then you go to properties and setup your printer correctly. Than just print!

Once the cd is printed, spray with your color protection spray. Then wait 5 minutes.
WOEHOE, borat would say: GREAT SUCCES88!!!88!!8!!!!!!

Please make note that I didn't use full printable cd's in this example.

A full printable cd looks like this:

top stuff - i havent got a printer atm but plan on buying one so will make sure it has a tray for CDs! are printable CDs usually easy to find? or are most CDs printable?

It's not very difficult to find i think. Just look for cd's with a complete white surface, and as i mentioned before go for the FULL printable cd's!

Cool tutorial.

Whats the difference betwen printable and full printable cd?

If you look at a regular CD, there's a "bump" ring around the hole. On fully printable CD's, they got rid of the bump, and give you white printable surface almost all the way to the center. You get more printing area.

The CD's are availble online for cheap.

That Canon printer isn't available in the states for some reason. Only the Epson's have the CD printing feature for consumer grade printers here.
