TC Electronic Konnekt 24D?

Does anyone use this audio interface? Pros, cons?
I was thinking of getting it, or the cheaper Konnekt 8.

I haven't used one, but I looked into them when I was buying...

Unless you need the inbuilt effects, they aren't really very good value IMO. You only get two stereo ins (the second set of line ins are coupled to the preamps), and two stereo outs. When you consider that Fireboxes and Audiofires give you the same thing (bar the effects) for $299, $499 for the Konnekt doesn't look worth it!

Pros:

Outstanding dsp bassed effects that can be accessed within a DAW.
Good convertor chips (still not quite as good as the AsahiKs in motu rme or apogee but way better than something like my old m-audio.)
Good analog staqe with desent specs.
Low jitter under 50. This is the clock of the unit and the lower the number the less ''limp'' and ''digital'' it is going to sound. Most soundcards (even most motus) crystal have jitter values are over 150-200.
This is under 40. Good!

Cons
The price you pay for desent sound quality is less I/0

Conclusion:
Overall unless you need the I/O you could do worst that picking up a unit the plug-ins alone are worth the price!

Thanks. :)

It would seem that they are still trying to get their XP drivers right. lol. Betas up on their site.

Fail.

Stick to the big names: MOTU, RME, Echo, M-Audio. AFAIK, TCE don't have much experience in the audio interface scene, so it will be a while until their products reach the quality of others. YES, the hardware is fantastic, but thats the easy part (think E-MU ;)).
At $499 for one of those Konnekt things, I'd rather a MOTU Ultralite and just use software effects.

I have the Konnekt 8 using a dell inspiron 9400, and it's not a stable interface for me. I have problems with audio drop outs. I think the 24D has the same issue with a lot of people. I wish I did more reasearch into evt. problems before I bought it, but TC will fix this. But half a yr after they released the interface, the driver still needs work. And that's not good for their rep. I will not be able to work until they remedy this. :whip:

Shame that you have so much trouble with it, hopefully TC will fix those issues. I'm glad I never got around to buying one. The Konnekt looks really good on paper, too bad it doesn't perform that well. :(

Just jumping on the first interface thread to catch my eye, What do we think of the presonus firebox/firestudio? I had a look at their stuff at a show over here, and it looked pretty sexy (if you like that sort of thing) I think the jitter is also supposed to be under 50 but the real selling point seemed to be the huge number of discrete inputs (comparable to the MOTU traveller). Its also really really cheap.

So my question: Whats the catch? Anyone know? Are the converters somehow crap, a bad SNR ratio? poor quality pre amps? Or should I buy one right now?

ADC/DAC isn't as good as some others (TC E, Echo, Motu etc.). Preamps are probably better though.

I just wanna update this thread with a new discovery, that will/should effect all dell laptops trying to run either the Konnekt 8 or the 24D.

I got the tip about disabling the dvd drive in the device manager - and there it was. It was the dvd drive that caused the audio drop outs all along! After I disabled it in device manager, the interface has been playing music flawlessly all day!

I haven't been able to test it with cubase or fl studio yet, but I will when I get those reinstalled. Been reinstalling xp to see if that would help. Hopefully there won't be more problems, but I'll write here when I have tested it.

what a fantastic solution... lol...

TCE = fail.

I agree, it's terible - I still ought to send it back. But it's working well enough for me to be able to use like I want, for the time being. Hopefully the future revisions of the driver/firmware will make it solid.
