Needle on a Record effect?

| Does anyone have a sound effect of a needle hitting a record. Im looking for that popping and crackling sound you get from vinyl. Ive tried beatport's Dj Tools section but nothings come up so far. |

No, but you know what you could do, is ask someone that has vinyl to record it. Simple, easy, and not difficult at all. |

If I'm not mistaking, Cool Edit Pro 2 has that effect. I'm pretty sure other decent software (like Acid) & wave editors have that effect as well :)

It's odd, but a crowd seems to react better to a record when there is that "needle" sound in the record. A fellow local DJ was telling me that he's been adding the "needle on the record" sound onto some of his CD songs to give the illusion that he's playing a vinyl and not a CD.
It seems like some dancers have this mind set that if the DJ is spinning with vinyl, that the DJ "knows what he's doing", even though we could be very competent on CDJs/laptops/whatever. I could see where this sound comes in handy on dance floors that are used to DJs spinning exclusively vinyl.
PS If anyone is still having a hard time finding this sound, I can do a quick recording and up it here... |

When would the crowd hear the needle dropping on the record?
If you're mixing, the needle will already be on the record before the track becomes audible. |

| if you have a program called stylus there is a whole section of vinyl sounds. some guys in the production forum have it....i do to but i'm too lazy to record all the sounds:D |

It's not the "dropping" sound that people are looking for so much as for the "pop" and "crackle" that is made when a vinyl is played. |
