[May lighting strike me] Top 40 remixes

OK gang... I've been asked to play an extremely 'Hollywood' party in early June, and I'm scared to death because I don't feel like I have any tunes for this crowd. I'm thinking, I'll just play my usual prog / house and throw some top 40 remixes in there to keep them paying attention.

thus:

1) I don't even listen to the radio to know whats 'hawt'

2)Any suggestions on producers that work on this stuff?

3)I know there is a million white label vinyl laying around, but I'm not really jiving with the cost of vinyl these days.

Any help / pointers / direction is a super duper plus,

thanks in advance. I hoped I'd never start a thread like this... but hey, oh well.

Ultimix does some decent remixes. Also try to find some Promo Only Mainstream Club issues. I've noticed Freemasons are doing a lot of remixes now of mainstream tunes.
ZeJayMan
Stanton Warriors and Jaques Le Cont do some great jobs of turning dog tracks into enjoyable listening experiences.

Oh boy! When you say "HOLLYWOOD" what do you mean? There's a "HOLLYWOOD" type of DJing going around that's pretty much modeled after DJ AM. It's a blend of a little bit of everything from classic rock to electro to hip hop to mashups. You should really try to find out what kind of crowd is coming and what they like. Promoters or whoever is organizing the party usually has a pretty good idea. Ask them.

Don't just assume that if you play Top 40 Dance Remixes everyone will like them. They won't. I've been there, done that. There's also lots of remixes that are garbage. I'll give you an example. Look up SEXY BACK by Justin Timberlake. There's hundreds of remixes. I seriously have over 40 of them, but I only play at the most 3-5 of them. My favorite are the Randy Boyer Remix, Alejandro Perez Remix, the Fedde Le Grand vs Justin mashup (excellent crowd reaction to this one), the Lady Sovereign vs Justin Remix (Another one with excellent reaction). The last two are the ones that appeal the most to the Top 40 crowd but yet, they're EDM.

Let me know what you find out and I'll give you a list of stuff that works for me. I play them all the time.

Mr Woody,

Well I didn't anticipate any local guys to chime in :) Ha ha..

Its an after party for a film festival, so god knows who will be there. I was planning on sticking to some chill house at first and moving to electro. The top 40 inquiry was really just to keep some stuff in my back pocket in case i needed to bust it out. No plans on barraging them with crap. Where are you finding all this music, Beatport yields no results.

There's no 'promoter' per se.. its the guys in charge of the festival and he asked for 'dj music'... ha

Thanks for all of the suggesto above... the timeslot is 3 hours and an open bar. sounds like nothing but trouble to me~!:D

Yeah, its hard to find Top40 stuff on Beatport. Most of the Top40 remixes that I find are on Perfect Beat, but I would check iTunes also.

As for who remixes them, Junior Vasquez and Tony Moran are the big names, but there are also companies like Ultimix/Funky Mix and Promo Only that put out exclusive remixes. I personally go for Gomi, E-Smoove, or Lenny B remixes.

Some Top40 remixes that I've done well with:

catdolls - Dont Cha (Kaskade Mix)
Justin Timberlake - My Love (Paul Oakenfold Mix)(yes...he's now remixing Top40...)
Justin Timberlake - Like I Love You (Basement Jaxx Vocal Mix)
(also check out the 'Acid Dub'. Killer tune!)
Mary J Blige - Be Without You (Promo Only Remix)
Madonna - Sorry (PSB Maxi-Mix)

This one is well-known but by a different crowd:
Cast Of Rent - Seasons Of Love (Gomi's Lair Mix)
Import
Promiscuous Girl - Nelly Furtado (Axwell Remix)

jumps to mind

Thanks for everyone's replies here.. the event went off without any hitches. They actually dug funky house the best... It was loud, and I managed to get pretty drunk. Good times. I'll post an excerpt of the drunk-o mix to my podcast if anyone is interested.

Please! I'd like to hear how the gig went? Any pics? What tunes worked best? What tunes tanked...

I forgot my camera... Doh~! But a bunch of people I don't know taking pics everywhere... oh well. G4 tv was there but i dont think they gave a crap about me. as expected.

regarding tracks... anything with a buzzy saw bassline i.e. electro, was not as well received as smoother vocal house. anything Kaskade / Colette worked just fine. Towards the end I went more Chicago funk, which is all in the mix I posted online.
