I'd appreciate any criticisms or critiques on this track, as it's probably the first track I've invested a lot of time in. I hope you enjoy, the track is here:

You have some nice ideas, but I think that the sounds in this are a little lacking.
I think that the synths are not powerful, and that you picked some pretty bad percussion samples.
And the vocal sample is a bit cheesy but thats just my opinion.
Keep working at it. :) |

Hearing the intro made me think I was back in 1992! This is a cool sound, it's very early rave.
Technically you have to do a lot of work in terms of the overall balance of the track.
The kick especially could do with some TLC.
I think I also notice that you have a kick that hits the same time that you have a bass note playing. Nothing wrong in that but you need to manage it a little. One way is to set up a sidechain so that the offending frequencies are silenced during the snap of the kick. If you set the release time correctly you wont actually notice the bass going silent during the kick sound and it will give the impression of them being played at the same time.
I actually think the sounds themselves actually work for this track but they do definately contribute to that 90s Rave feel.
Saying that a nice composition overall and I enjoyed that.
Cheers

Thanks SO much Nemesis, I appreciate a thought out review. I really want to improve on my elements, and I admit I take a lot of inspiration from old school raves :P
This was one of my first times putting a lot of effort into a track as I'm still fairly new with FL. I'll try what you suggested with the bass and beat, I never thought about it. |
