The second Broken Disco was another awesome dance party, with Knifehandchop and Nordic Soul blowing up both rooms and NAHA and Kris Moon tearing up the afterhours. Thanks to all who came out, danced, supported and continue to be excited about this new monthly! We really appreciate it.

In our next installment, the Broken Disco "collective" is proud to present...

MAIN ROOM (18+)

Smash TV - Live
[BPitch Control / Playhouse]
"Now more than ever" seems to be the motto of Holger Zilske, aka Smash TV. Originally Smash TV represented the collaborative efforts of Holger Zilske and Michael Schmidt, who began their career recording under the alias Mindlab, releasing one popular tech-house single on the Salo imprint (where fellow tech-house artists SCSI-9 also got their start). With a switch over to Berlin's Bpitch Control, the duo released Electrified and a slew of singles that gained critical acclaim in the international press. Weary of the day-to-day operations of touring, producing, and other musical activities, Schmidt left the group in 2003, leaving Zilske to run the project as a solo act. Undeterred, Zilske delivered Bits for Breakfast for Bpitch, which featured tech-house vocalist Raz Ohara lending his voice to several songs on the album. Zilske continues to record almost exclusively for Bpitch Control, releasing the Air and Yellow Asteroids singles in mid-2006. He has produced a over 80 tracks and also completed several remixes.

Nortec Collective - Live
[Because Music / Nacional Records]
The Nortec Collective is comprised of five artists: Fussible (Pepe Mogt), Bostich (Ramón Amezcua), Panóptica (Roberto Mendoza), Clorofila (Jorge Verd_n) and Hiperboreal (Pedro Gabriel Beas). These producers create and perform a style of music called Nortec - a fusion of Norteño ("from the North") and Techno, documenting the collision between the style and culture of electronica and traditional Mexican music. Their latest album reached #1 out of the Top 50 Albums in Seattle on KEXP. Nortec Collective is not a thing or a genre or a group or a band, but an entire electronic aesthetic. It is a convergence of high-tech and low-tech, of North and South, of all things techno with all things norteño, of all the things that are a part of the rural and urban. The sound of the Nortec Collective is the sound of the First World in the Third and the Third World in the First.

Since 1999, the Nortec Collective musicians have toured throughout the United States, Mexico, Europe, Japan and Latin America, transformed LA rock clubs, and ruled the stage of New York's Central Park SummerStage and Irving Plaza, as well as the prestigious Winter Music Conference in Miami, shows at the Royal Festival Hall in London or Elysee Montmartre in Paris. Former Mexican President Ernest Zedillo invited Nortec to provide music for the Mexican pavilion at the Expo 2000 in Hanover, and they've done remixes for Beck, Calexico, Ennio Morricone, Kronos quartet, Leigh Nash, and Lenny Kravitz among others. An interactive book entitled Paso del Nortec- This Is Tijuana dedicated to the Nortec phenomena was released in the US, Mexico and Europe. In addition, their last album received glowing praise from media outlets like Rollling Stone, L.A. Weekly, XLR8R and The New York Times.

Panoptica - Live
[Certificate 18 / Nacional Records]
Roberto Mendoza has been one of the main figures in the Mexican electronic scene since the late 80s, founding bands like electro post-industrial outfit Artefakto and in the 90s the critically acclaimed Nortec Collective. During this same period he signed a deal with London label Certificate 18 as Panoptica, releasing a series of albums from which DJ legend John Peel (RIP) took notice. In 2001 he invited Panoptica to participate in a Peel session on his popular BBC radio show.

Panoptica music was well received by media and djs alike and on sets by Craig Richards, Lee Burridge and Kirk Degiorgio to name a few. When Certificate 18 shut down in 2003 Roberto continued performing as Panoptica with the Nortec Collective and contributed songs to the "Tijuana Sessions." In 2005 "Ahora yo a ti" (Noarte/Nacional Records) was released containing a collection of collaborations and remixes. Additional projects include R. Mendoza and Desierto with David J (Bauhaus/love and Rockets) and Pepe Mogt (Latinziser/Fussible).At the moment Panoptica is doing tracks for a brand new Ep to be released later this 2007.

DJ Colin
[Mercir]
A ten year veteran dj, producer, and electronic music promoter, Colin Johnson's diverse musical tastes and recorded output reflect his bohemian upbringing. Living much of his life on the road, he was exposed at an early age to the varying music, art, and cultures that America had to offer. From his intuitive grade-school flirtations with sound collage and his naive experimentations with 'scratching,' to his instrumental production under the alias Fringe and being a founding member of Seattle's own Indie-Electronic band Mercir, Colin's progressive approach to music has been accompanied with accolades.

Since 2004, Mercir has found its unique place in the Seattle's musical landscape, bridging together the worlds of indie rock with keyboard and laptop-based live electronic music. The band has shared the stage with such luminary electro-pop outfits as Phoenix, Styrofoam, Her Space Holiday, The Helio Sequence, and Brazilian Girls, and has performed at festivals such as Bumbershoot, Sasquatch, and Decibel. When not creating the beats that drive Mercir, Colin continues to pursue his DJ'ing, having opened up for the likes of Hot Chip, The Rapture, and Tommie Sunshine. As a DJ, Colin has won over dance floors with his eclectic blend of electro, electro-house, baile-funk, hip-hop, synth-pop, and disco-punk.

Introcut
[Hidden Habitats / Fourthcity]
Introcut (Matthew Moroni) is a Washington resident who has been djing for almost ten years. He’s most known for being a member of the Fourthcity art and music collective and for his spaced out, crazy technical scratching techniques. His DJ sets are a blend of many different genres - underground hip-hop, downtempo, drum & bass, broken beat, house, dub, electro, punk rock, 80s, funk, jazz... - just about anything he likes, and he likes everything (except most top 40 rap and young country)! For the past two years, Introcut has been a resident at “Stop Biting,” which is one of Seattle’s longest running hip-hop weeklies, held each week at the Lo-Fi Performance Gallery. He also performs with members of Foscil in the band Galactic Ionization Unit and sometimes djs for local MC legend SPECSONE.

Recess
[Shameless]
Raised on the industrial, new wave, and pop music of the time, in the late 80's Recess quickly found his second home at the now defunct Club Underground in Seattle. Using this early experience as a platform, he started collecting records and honing his skills at various clubs around the Northwest, quickly establishing himself as a formidable performer. Recess continues to turn heads with his unique take on dance music, and is the main force behind local collective Shameless, who are responsible for the Official Decibel Festival afterparties plus numerous other local events, including Modeselektor, DJ Assault, & Egyptian Lover. He has played alongside heavy hitters such as Modeselektor, Felix Da Housecat, Damian Lazarus, DJ Assault, Ewan Pearson, Adult, Smash TV, and Freaky Chakra. You can easily catch Recess playing electro/discopunk at one club, baile funk/bmore club/ghetto tech at another, or techno/house, all depending upon the crowd and party. His versatility has led to being recently nominated for the Seattle Weekly's Best Local DJ contest, and his sets are not to be missed.

What is Broken Disco?
Broken Disco brings together the combined talent of four of Seattle's most dedicated electronic music collectives (Decibel, Fourthcity, Sensory Effect and Shameless) with the support of one of it's favorite venues, Chop Suey all united to showcase internationally renowned talent.
